Optical Coating Technician

About The Position

The Optical Coating Technician works alongside engineers and fellow technicians to prepare, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot complex vacuum coating chambers and related equipment. The role follows production processes and procedures carefully while preparing, cleaning, and inspecting valuable optics and optical assemblies. The technician operates coating equipment for thin-film deposition, performs process troubleshooting, completes process documentation, and collects measurement data for engineering.

Requirements

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
Strong attention to detail and excellent hand-eye coordination.
Mechanical aptitude and curiosity, with the ability and willingness to learn.
Computer proficiency and willingness to learn new technologies.
Ability to speak up as appropriate and escalate issues when required.
Ability to remain flexible and assist others as needed.
Solid written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

Three to five years of experience operating thin-film deposition equipment; listed as preferred.
Operations or manufacturing experience in an aerospace environment.
Experience handling, cleaning, and inspecting valuable, delicate optics.

Responsibilities

Prepare, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot vacuum coating chambers and related equipment alongside engineers and other technicians.
Follow production processes and procedures accurately when preparing, cleaning, and inspecting optics and optical assemblies.
Clean, inspect, and load substrates into coating tools.
Operate and maintain coating chambers and equipment used for deposition.
Troubleshoot processes and identify and report issues to the area Supervisor or Engineer.
Prepare and complete daily process documentation accurately.
Operate thin-film measurement equipment and collect data for engineering.
