About The Position

Federal Express Corporation is seeking qualified applicants for Ops Research Scientist I, Ops Research Scientist II and Ops Research Scientist III positions. By applying to this posting, you may be considered for either role, depending on your qualifications and experience. Ops Research Scientist I: Analyzes existing business system and designs business models and software applications. Develops models and applications based on advanced analytical methods and facilitates communications between Operations Research and end-users. These models and applications will enable informed, data-driven decisions and insights for efficiently running, planning, and transforming the business. Ops Research Scientist II: Develops business requirements, analyzes systems design, and implements business models. Leads the development of assigned models and software applications based on advanced analytical methods. Establishes and maintains communications with personnel in business departments. These models and applications will enable informed, data-driven decisions and insights for efficiently running, planning, and transforming the business. Ops Research Scientist III: The Ops Research Scientist III role involves gathering of business requirements, system analysis, design, and implementation of models and applications in the respective business area. The Ops Research Scientist III will provide guidance and leadership to other scientists, develop new and upgrade existing models and applications based on advanced analytical methods, and serve as a subject matter expert in Operations Research.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree/equivalent in computer science, applied mathematics, Industrial Engineering, or related field required. Bachelor's degree with two years related experience satisfies the education requirement.
  • Advanced application (can be through education / coursework) of two or more of the following: Java, SAS, SQL, and/or Python to analyze or design business models and software applications.
  • Advanced application (can be through education / coursework) of two or more commercial optimization, simulation, ML or supply chain modeling engines and languages such as: CPLEX, Gurobi, Xpress, ESRI, Simio, AnyLogic, Tensorflow, Scikit Learn or Supply Chain Guru to analyze business problems.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of Operations Research (OR) and Analytics models.
  • Working knowledge of cloud computing in environments such as Azure, Google Cloud Platform or Amazon Web Services.
  • Working knowledge of data visualization tools such as Tableau, Spotfire, Power BI or d3.js
  • Experience explaining complex and/or confidential information via both verbal and written means.
  • Presentation skills necessary to facilitate training and/or deliver information sessions to groups and /or individuals.
  • Time management and organizational skills necessary to appropriately prioritize workload, plan for resources to meet deadlines and goals, and respond to day-to-day functional needs.
  • Experience anticipating and identifying problems and using judgment and fact-based analysis to develop effective and efficient solutions.
  • Two (2) years demonstrated experience (academic work and / or professional experience) required in operations research and / or software development with exposure to object-oriented languages and mathematical / rule-based modeling required.
  • Four (4) years demonstrated experience (academic work and / or professional experience) required in operations research and / or software development with exposure to object- oriented languages and mathematical / rule-based modeling required. More advanced degrees such as PhD in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, or related field may offset the minimum experience requirement
  • Demonstrated expertise (can be through education/coursework) of two or more of the following: Java, SAS, SQL, and/or Python to analyze or design business models and software applications
  • Advanced expertise in cloud computing in environments such as Azure, Google Cloud Platform or Amazon Web Services
  • Advanced expertise in data visualization tools such as Tableau, Spotfire, Power BI or d3.js
  • Advanced expertise in software design and development

Responsibilities

  • Implements advanced analytical techniques such as mathematical modeling, optimization, statistics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and simulation to drive industry leading concepts to solve complex business problems
  • Programs and designs the business operational models and software applications
  • Constructs new approaches and methodologies to enhance the business models
  • Manages, manipulates, and visualizes data for new and enhanced business operational models
  • Responsible for performing unit and system testing, including monitoring, and validating test results
  • Writes technical documentation in accordance with business framework
  • Develops ad hoc reports and big data analysis according to management requests
  • Collaborates with business analysts, field personnel, and other departments for problem resolutions
  • Leads other scientists in managing, manipulating and visualizing data for new and enhanced business operational models
  • Leads other scientists in performing unit and system testing as well as monitoring and validating the test results
  • Leads other scientists in writing technical documentation and develops the business framework
  • Plans and leads team efforts within department in all phases of analytical projects, including business problem framing, analytics problem framing, data identification, methodology selection, model building, deployment, and model life cycle management
  • Serves as subject matter expert in Operations Research.
  • Develops models and applications that will enable informed, data-driven decisions and insights for efficiently running, planning, and transforming the business.
  • Leads advanced analytical techniques such as mathematical modeling, optimization, statistics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and simulation to drive industry leading concepts to solve complex business problems.
  • Programs and designs the business operational models and software applications and reviews other scientists designs and code.
  • Leads development of system architecture (software, hardware) for the business models in the respective business area.
  • Researches and keeps up to date with latest technology, techniques, and tools.
  • Provides leadership in unit and system testing and ensuring test validation.
  • Provides leadership in managing, manipulating, and visualizing data and designing systems for doing so for new and enhanced business operational models.
  • Leads the development of and compliance to Operations Research documentation framework standards.
  • Leads in communications with respective business area.
  • Leads collaboration with business analysts, field personnel, and other departments for problem resolutions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
