About The Position

The Florida Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking motivated, dynamic individuals to join their team at the Clyde E. Lassen State Veterans’ Nursing Home. This skilled nursing facility boasts a loyal team of long-term employees and a fantastic work culture. The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Utilities and Maintenance Superintendent, assisting in the repair and maintenance of the Veterans Nursing Home, ensuring environmental controls and equipment are operational and properly maintained. This role involves assisting with routine and special inspections, compiling and reporting information on energy consumption and vehicle use, and contributing to energy conservation programs. The position also includes performing routine preventative maintenance, providing routine repair services to defective equipment, repairing physical plant deficiencies, resolving routine work orders, and assisting with the assembly, delivery, and installation of facility equipment. The role requires following a preventive maintenance plan, communicating effectively with staff, residents, and vendors, completing tasks in a timely manner, documenting outcomes, and maintaining tools, work equipment, and the work area in a clean, organized manner. The position supports a safe and accident-free environment, requires a willingness to learn new procedures and techniques, and the ability to accept assignments and instructions agreeably. The employee will attend and complete in-service training and perform other related duties as required, following FDVA, Homes Program, and facility policies, procedures, and standards. The position is in the Other Personnel Service (OPS) system.

Requirements

  • Recent experience of at least one (1) year in maintenance and repair of buildings, plumbing, and mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (reading, writing, and speaking).
  • Experience working with plumbing, HVAC, and electrical equipment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule Monday through Friday, Weekends and Holidays.
  • Successful completion of the due diligence process to include, but not limited to, a Level II background check and drug test.

  • Experience with a long-term care or hospital environment with a geriatric population.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Utilities and Maintenance Superintendent and Maintenance Repairman in the repair and maintenance of the Veterans Nursing Home.
  • Ensure environmental controls and equipment are operational and properly maintained.
  • Assist with routine and special inspections to comply with laws, rules, and policies and procedures.
  • Assist with the compilation and reporting of information on energy consumption and vehicle use.
  • Contribute to the implementation of programs for energy conservation.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently and the physical condition of the buildings does not deteriorate.
  • Provide routine repair services to defective equipment.
  • Repair physical plant deficiencies.
  • Resolve routine work orders.
  • Assist with the assembly, delivery, and installation of facility equipment.
  • Follow the preventive maintenance plan.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, residents, and vendors.
  • Complete tasks in a timely manner and document outcomes.
  • Maintain tools, work equipment and work area in clean, organized manner.
  • Support a safe and accident-free environment.
  • Be willing to learn new procedures and techniques.
  • Accept assignments and instruction in an agreeable manner.
  • Attend and complete in-service training by posted training schedule.
  • Other related duties as required.

  • May be required to be on “emergency call status” as designated by the supervisor.
