About The Position

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is seeking an OPS Maintenance Mechanic for the Fish & Wildlife Research Institute (FWRI) Facilities in St. Petersburg, Florida. This position is responsible for performing general maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds, and equipment. The role involves preventative maintenance, minor repairs to plumbing, electrical, and communication systems, woodwork, and painting. The mechanic will also assist with hurricane preparedness, event setup/takedown, HVAC maintenance, and managing work orders through the CMMS. Safety is paramount, requiring adherence to OSHA and FWRI guidelines, and completion of OSHA 10 training. The position also involves coordinating with outside vendors and performing other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience in the maintenance and repair of buildings, plumbing or electrical or mechanical equipment; or vocational/ technical training in mechanical repair or one of the building trades.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License.
  • Successfully completion a Level 1 and Level 2 background check.
  • Ability to maintain a Valid driver's license.
  • Good physical condition and ability to do landscape work, attic work, and other manual labor.
  • Ability to easily lift 40 pounds.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft office software, especially Outlook and ability to use CMMS to complete work orders.
  • Ability to use and follow State's purchasing policies and procedures.
  • Complete the course for gaining a State PCard and successfully complete the course of Advance Accountability.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds and equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on all buildings and related equipment.
  • Perform minor repairs on all plumbing, electrical and communication equipment.
  • Perform repair/alterations of building woodwork (partitions, doors, cabinets, and special scientific furniture).
  • Prepare and paint interior and exterior of buildings and equipment.
  • Understand and follow all safety related rules to include OSHA, NFPA, FWRI.
  • Complete the OSHA 10 training.
  • Perform/assist in hurricane preparedness program.
  • Perform setup and take down for events.
  • Assist with HVAC maintenance and operations.
  • Access the facility's CMMS (work order system) to prepare and close out work orders.
  • Complete assigned inspections and create additional work orders as needed.
  • Install, maintain, and repair valves, faucets, traps, sinks, water closets and urinals.
  • Perform general carpentry work in the alteration, repair and maintenance of buildings, floors, doors, and windows.
  • Repair defective components in lighting fixtures, replace defective electrical switches and receptacles.
  • Relocate furniture and equipment from building to building as required.
  • Coordinate maintenance and repair work performed by outside vendors on a one-time and ongoing basis.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
