About The Position

This position serves as the Health Support Specialist and works under general supervision of the Senior Public Health Nutritionist, position #64064098. This position is responsible for the secure collection and/or access to records containing social security numbers and is responsible for implementing the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) at several clinic sites throughout the county as directed by the Public Health Nutrition Program Director. Duties include: Responsible for determining eligibility for clients in the WIC program. This includes completion of family information, client information, and cert action screen in FL WISE system. This type of data entry is completed during certification and recertification of clients. Orient new clients to the WIC program, provide WIC information (how WIC works, food pamphlets, and Clay County WIC stores), rights and obligations, EBT card issuance letter, benefits redemption, WIC policies/procedures, and issues WIC benefits on EBT cards. Print computer generated WIC VOC/ID cards as needed. Schedules WIC appointments and coordinates other FDOH – Clay County services. Provides secondary nutrition education newsletter and other handouts. Collects surveys, performs questionnaires, and copies of child immunization records as required per QA standards and WIC/Immunization coordination. Coordinate in and out-of-state transfers. Scan documents including height and weight measurements from another source, custody papers, transfer papers, and other documents pertaining importance client’s information under WIC Procedure Manual (DHM 150-24, 8/14) and Bureau of WIC program services memos. Represents WIC staff to the public when functioning as WIC receptionist. Duties include triaging the front, performing eligibility upon consent from client, and monitoring the clinic flow. Screen and route incoming calls, provide information and referral as necessary. Answer inquiries from physician offices, clients, Healthy Start Coalition, FDOH – Clay County personnel and other collaborative agencies in a professional manner, maintaining confidentiality. Take and disseminate messages in accurate and timely manner. Telephone clients for missed WIC appointments on a daily basis. Operate a variety of office equipment including computer, fax machine, copier, etc., including updates on new computer program applications. Complete all required forms and reports such as Employee Activity Reports, attendance and leave records, travel expenses, etc. by the required deadlines. Complete monthly/quarterly reports by the required deadlines. Assist in uploading emails and faxes to the appropriate clients account in a timely manner and updating anthropometrics if applicable. Attend required WIC and FDOH meetings. Fulfill requirements of WIC Nutrition Education modules and on-going nutrition education. In the absence of other support staff perform travel using county vehicle to fill in as required to all Clay County WIC locations. Obtains clients’ anthropometric measurements (height and weight), hemoglobin, and other related program data as needed and when applicable. Documents this data appropriately in the FL WISE system. Enters the WIC ID# and other required immunization information into the Florida SHOTS database and places alert in client’s profile in FL WISE system for all certification, re-certifications, and mid-certifications. Perform all other related duties as assigned and within the realm of the Classification Specifications of a Health Support Specialist.

  • Must be able to learn and communicate effectively, orally and in writing, in English.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in the medical field within the last 5 years.
  • At least one year of WIC experience.
  • Experience obtaining labs and anthropometrics.
  • At least 6 months experience working with parents &/or children under 5 years old.
  • Bilingual.
