About The Position

This full-time Other Personal Services (OPS) position is based out of the FWC’s Conservation Engagement and Education’s Florida Youth Conservation Centers Network. The FWC is seeking a self-motivated, energetic, outcome-oriented individual to work as the facility representative of the program team at the Joe Budd Youth Conservation Center in Midway, just outside Tallahassee. The incumbent will independently ensure the facility premises and equipment are clean, well kept, and in good repair. Interested individuals must be passionate about getting youth outside to create the next generation that cares about fish and wildlife resources.

Requirements

• At least two years of professional experience in facilities maintenance, including grounds keeping and janitorial work.
• Employment in this position is contingent upon a satisfactory criminal history check (fingerprint-based) in accordance with Chapter 435, Florida Statutes.
• Possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.
• Occasional travel for meetings and events required (1-25%).
• May require work time outside of regularly scheduled hours, including evenings and weekends.
• Up to 40 hours per week 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (ET) Monday-Friday.
• Successful completion of the following FWC-provided trainings within the first 8 months of employment: Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certification, trailering, chainsaw operation, ATV training, and purchasing training.

• Information should be provided regarding any gaps in employment.
• Perform routine maintenance and minor repair tasks across multiple trades.
• Ability to work independently, take initiative, and solve problems.
• Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments for self and when working with others.
• Inspect mechanical equipment and vehicles to ensure proper functioning.
• Ability to replace worn, damaged, or defective mechanical parts.
• Operation of ground keeping equipment, line trimmers, edgers, blowers, chainsaws, and hedge trimmers.
• Operation of various power tools.
• Ability to pull a trailer behind a state vehicle or willingness to obtain training/skill.
• Ability to order materials, supplies, or equipment.
• Ability to use an agency provided smart phone.
• Ability to work professionally and sensitively with a varied audience and a wide range of contacts at different levels.
• Ability to lift up to 55 lbs.
• Ability to travel, enter and exit a vehicle, and withstand exposure to adverse weather conditions.
• Ability to be a team player and work collaboratively with colleagues, various stakeholders, partners, and government agencies.
• Computer literate in MS Office, and other related software.

Nice To Haves

• A degree or in the apprentice program from a vocational or trade school may substitute for one year of professional experience.
• Preferred experience in construction, pipe fitting, HVAC maintenance, insulating, welding, machining, carpentry, repairing electrical or mechanical equipment, installing, aligning, and balancing new equipment, and repairing buildings, floors, or stairs.
• Experience in outdoor recreation (archery, fishing, paddle sports, and shooting sports) is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and maintain facilities, property, and equipment for proactive maintenance needs; conduct monthly assessments of maintenance needs; perform repairs as needed to ensure everything is clean and in good working order.
• Equipment maintenance and record keeping for various vehicles, trailers, and lawn equipment.
• Perform repairs within your scope of experience or certification, which could include plumbing, electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and woodworking.
• Complete other tasks related to facilities maintenance as assigned by the Conservation Center Director, which may include coordinating and supervising contractors, conducting facility health and safety inspections, transporting recreational equipment for educational programs, and completing annual property inventory.
• Purchase items related to repair or maintenance of items using a state issued purchasing card.
• Assist the education team as assigned with maintenance and repairs of educational program equipment (e.g., washing boats, repairing archery, cleaning firearms and fishing equipment).
• Occasional requirements to clean facilities, including restrooms, common areas, and the exterior of buildings (e.g., power washing, sweeping, mopping, and trash management).
• Occasional grounds maintenance, such as mowing, line trimming, and brush pick up.
