About The Position

Animal Eye Care is Australia's premier Veterinary Ophthalmology Clinic, seeking an exceptional veterinary nurse for a permanent, full-time position (38 hours, Monday to Friday). The clinic offers a four-day workweek to promote work-life balance, with potential part-time opportunities. The role focuses on patient care with minimal reception duties, though a rotating on-call schedule averages one weekend every six weeks. Requirements

  • At least 3 years of nursing experience
  • Minimum Certificate IV or equivalent qualifications
  • Strong enthusiasm for anaesthesia and surgical procedures

Responsibilities

  • Oversee patient comfort and monitor vital signs during anaesthesia while maintaining accurate anaesthesia records.
  • Administer medications and manage IV catheter maintenance with precision.
  • Provide clear communication to clients, particularly regarding detailed discharge instructions.
  • Uphold exceptional standards of cleanliness and organization in both the ward and surgical areas.
  • Conduct instrument cleaning and sterilization, with minimal involvement due to dedicated Vet Nurse Assistant support.
  • Perform light reception duties, including triaging emergency cases, scheduling appointments, and coordinating with clients and referring veterinarians.
  • Serve as an ophthalmic assistant post-training, conducting thorough ophthalmic histories and basic eye examinations.
  • Execute tests such as pupillary light reflex (PLR), menace response, Schirmer Tear Test, and tonometry with expertise.
  • Collaborate effectively with the veterinary team to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Maintain a professional demeanour while fostering a welcoming environment for clients and their pets.
