Ophthalmology Tech Supervisor

This role supervises Eye Technicians in clinic and hospital settings, focusing on work direction, education, orientation, and operational problem-solving for the Department of Ophthalmology. The supervisor addresses technical, scheduling, and equipment issues, identifies improvements for daily operations, manages work assignments, timekeeping, performance appraisals, and oversees the integration of technical personnel. They also participate in the hiring process and manage ophthalmic instrument/equipment and supply procurement.
Requirements
- High school degree or equivalent.
- Strong communication and human relation skills.
- Successful completion of a JRCOMP approved program for Ophthalmic Assistance.
- JCAHPO certification as a COA/COT/COMT.
- Current CPR certification.
- Thorough understanding of current ophthalmology techniques, standards of practice, technology, and equipment.
- Demonstrated management/leadership skills.
- Demonstrated communication, problem solving, and organizational ability.
- Highly organized, efficient, and able to work independently.
- Ability to exercise good judgment.
- Certified as a COA, COT, or COMT level.
Nice To Haves
- 5 years certified as a COA/COT/COMT.
Responsibilities
- Provides work direction, education, orientation, and operational problem solving for Eye Technicians.
- Solves technical, scheduling, and equipment issues for the Department of Ophthalmology.
- Identifies and initiates improvements in unit matters to facilitate daily operations.
- Schedules work assignments and is responsible for timekeeping activities.
- Completes annual performance appraisals.
- Oversees orientation, training, and integration of technical personnel.
- Initiates, coordinates, and participates in the interview and selection of prospective employees.
- Obtains and maintains ophthalmic instrument/equipment and related supplies.
- Writes and speaks clearly and concisely.
- Works effectively with the team to develop goals for the work unit.
- Demonstrates effective human resource planning including staffing, recruiting, and training program development.
- Maintains an up-to-date knowledge base for the work unit's information technology needs and seeks ways to enhance effectiveness through new technologies.
- Acts as a liaison between technical staff and physicians, resolving issues through courteous communication.
- Provides coaching on behavior problems, performance improvement, and professional development/advancement.
