Requirements

  • A high school degree or equivalent is required.
  • Strong communication and human relation skills to carry out supervisory duties and to interact with a variety of people at different levels within the institution.
  • Successful completion of a JRCOMP (Joint Review Committee for Ophthalmic Medical Personnel) approved program for Ophthalmic Assistance.
  • JCAHPO (Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology) certification as a COA/COT/COMT, with current CPR certification is required.
  • A thorough understanding of current ophthalmology techniques, standards of practice, technology, and equipment.
  • Demonstrated management/leadership skills, communication, problem solving, and organizational ability.
  • Highly organized, efficient, work independently, and have the ability to exercise good judgment.
  • Certified as a COA, COT, or COMT level.

Responsibilities

  • Work direction, education, orientation, and operational problem solving within the unit on a day-to-day basis for Eye Technicians working in the clinic and hospitals.
  • Problem solving technical, scheduling, and equipment issues for the Department of Ophthalmology.
  • Identifying and initiating improvements in unit matters to facilitate daily operations.
  • Scheduling work assignments.
  • Timekeeping activities.
  • Completing annual performance appraisals.
  • Overseeing orientation, training, and integration of technical personnel to ensure effective and efficient technical assistance to the Ophthalmic Practice.
  • Initiating, coordinating, and participating in the interview and selection of prospective employees.
  • Obtaining and maintaining ophthalmic instrument/equipment and related supplies.
