Requirements

  • Possess a minimum of a HS Diploma or equivalent along with and meet the following criteria:
  • Ophthalmic Assistant criteria AND,
  • One-year prior experience as an Ophthalmic Technician or Ophthalmic Assistant OR
  • Two years prior experience as a technician in an Optometry Clinic OR
  • Successful completion of OSUP’s Ophthalmic Personnel Training Program

Responsibilities

  • Provides high quality, accurate and compassionate care to a diverse patient population.
  • Displays high proficiency in taking patient histories and is highly organized to fully prepare the patient for the physician appointment.
  • Interacts professionally and compassionately with patients daily.
  • Performs diagnostic Visual Field Testing: Humphrey, Octopus and Goldman Fields.
  • Clinical Competence of Ophthalmic Imaging: OCT, HRT, Pachymetry, Topography and IOL Master.
  • Enters information into Electronic Medical Record.
  • Transports patients within the facility to additional departments.
  • Assists with rooming patients.
  • Stocks and disinfects examination rooms.
  • Provides assistance to Physicians and Ophthalmic Technicians in the Ophthalmology clinic.
  • Initiates patient’s exam and prepares patients for physician appointments.
  • Documents medical history, symptoms, complaints, and medications.
  • Performs related patient service when necessary and as requested.
  • Travel may be required to accommodate staffing levels at other clinical facilities.
  • Performs diagnostic testing such as visual acuity eye exams, lensometry, keratometry, refractometry, and tonometry.
  • Obtains Ophthalmic Imaging: OCT, Topography, Pachymetry, Specular Microscopy, Manual A-Scans and IOL Master.
  • Instructs patients on proper eyecare.
  • Adhere to regulations regarding drug samples and drug sample logs.
  • Ensures medication and supply expiration dates are current.
  • Other duties or special projects as assigned.
