This role involves greeting patients, reviewing charts, obtaining patient history, and performing various ophthalmic tests prior to physician examination. The technician will administer drops, instruct patients on medications and treatments, answer patient questions, and follow up with pharmacies. Responsibilities also include escorting patients, cleaning and sterilizing equipment, maintaining and stocking exam rooms, and potentially assisting at the front desk, functioning as a Medical Scribe, or performing other assigned duties. The position requires knowledge of ophthalmic medical terminology, basic ocular anatomy and physiology, common visual pathologies, and the operation of patient testing equipment. Strong organizational, prioritization, and interpersonal skills are essential for maximizing clinic efficiency and managing a busy workload in an ophthalmic office setting. The ability to work independently with limited supervision and adapt to new assignments is also important.
