About The Position

The Ophthalmic Technician I assists ophthalmologists and optometrists by gathering information about patients’ ocular health. The role performs appropriate clinical tests using knowledge of eye-care principles gained through formal education and/or clinical experience. It also includes administrative and teamwork responsibilities in a fast-paced clinical setting.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent years of related experience preferred.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Nice To Haves

Nextech/ICP experience is strongly preferred.
Ophthalmic and/or optometric technician experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Review patient charts for completeness and accuracy.
Perform testing ordered by the doctor based on the scheduled exam, patient complaint, and/or patient history.
Act as a medical scribe during physician examinations and enter data into electronic medical records.
Take ocular and systemic histories and accurately record visual acuity.
Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications under physician direction.
Assist with simple in-office procedures and ensure proper informed consent is obtained.
Assist with patient education.
Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms during the workday.
Comply with practice procedures, protocols, and state and federal regulations.
Report inventory and supply needs to leadership in a timely manner for ordering.
Participate in daily team huddles and regularly scheduled meetings as planned and required.
Report potential or suspected errors to a supervisor or Compliance Officer.
Complete additional tasks or projects as needed to support the team.
Maintain a positive attitude characterized by cooperation, self-motivation, courtesy, and professionalism.
