About The Position

The Ophthalmic Technician I assists ophthalmologists and optometrists by gathering information about patients’ ocular health. The technician performs appropriate clinical tests, applying a solid understanding of eye-care theory and principles gained through formal education and/or clinical experience. The role also includes clinical documentation, patient education, assistance with in-office procedures, and administrative and team responsibilities.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent years of related experience preferred.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Nice To Haves

Nextech/ICP experience is strongly preferred.
Ophthalmic and/or optometric technician experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Review patient charts to ensure information is complete and accurate.
Perform testing ordered by the doctor, based on the scheduled exam, patient complaint, and/or patient history.
Act as a medical scribe during physician examinations and enter data into electronic medical records.
Take ocular and systemic histories and accurately record visual acuity.
Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications under physician direction.
Assist with simple in-office procedures and ensure proper informed consent is obtained.
Assist with patient education.
Maintain clean and orderly exam rooms during the workday.
Comply with practice procedures and protocols, as well as state and federal regulations.
Report inventory and supply needs to leadership promptly for ordering.
Participate in daily team huddles and scheduled meetings as required.
Report potential or suspected errors to a supervisor or Compliance Officer.
Complete additional tasks or projects as needed to contribute to the team.
Maintain a positive, cooperative, self-motivated, courteous, and professional attitude.
