About The Position

Milwaukee Eye Care Associates, S.C. (MEC) is looking for a motivated, dependable, and patient-focused Ophthalmic Assistant to join our clinical team. No ophthalmology experience? That's okay—we will train the right person. We are looking for someone who enjoys working directly with patients, is comfortable in a fast-paced medical environment, and has the ability to learn, think critically, and apply new knowledge throughout the workday. This is much more than taking basic measurements. Our Ophthalmic Assistants play an important role in the patient experience and work closely with our ophthalmologists and optometrists to gather information, perform testing, and prepare patients for their examination.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in ophthalmology, optometry, or another patient-facing healthcare setting
  • Experience in roles involving significant one-on-one patient interaction, medical terminology, clinical decision-making, or hands-on patient care

Responsibilities

  • Welcome patients and obtain a thorough medical and ocular history
  • Perform preliminary vision and eye testing
  • Measure visual acuity, intraocular pressure, pupils, and other eye functions
  • Perform diagnostic testing and imaging as trained
  • Document patient information accurately in the electronic medical record
  • Prepare patients for examinations and procedures
  • Assist physicians and providers throughout the patient visit
  • Recognize when information or test results require additional attention
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients of all ages
  • Maintain clean, organized, and properly stocked clinical areas
  • Continue developing your ophthalmic knowledge through hands-on training and education
