About The Position

The Operator is responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of company equipment and machines. This role involves safely operating equipment, ensuring locates are correct, and adhering to company and OSHA safety procedures. The Operator will also perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and cleaning of assigned equipment. Additionally, they may assist in training laborers, help with hand digging and potholing, and potentially work overtime, including evenings, weekends, and travel for out-of-town assignments.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and/or equivalent.
  • Class A CDL Driver's License, or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.
  • 2+ year's experience operating equipment in the underground utility field.
  • 2 + year’s industry experience (i.e., underground utility construction).
  • Good eyesight and better than average coordination to operate both hand and foot levers simultaneously.
  • Good judgement to perform complicated tasks and must be able to work closely with other crafts without constant supervision.
  • Constantly on alert and observant of their surroundings.
  • Ability to work on construction specifications or blueprints.
  • Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
  • Ability to perform manual work requiring periods of extensive physical exertion and potential exposure to adverse weather conditions.
  • Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions.
  • Ability to drive and operate the equipment under varying working conditions.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Regular exposure to all weather conditions, especially hot, humid and/or rainy spring, summer, and fall weather.
  • When working onsite, it will be required to wear common protective safety equipment, such as safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, hard hats, and safety vest.

Responsibilities

  • Operates equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Ensures locates are correct.
  • Properly follow company and OSHA safety procedures.
  • Bring problems to the attention of the Foreman, Supervisor, Safety Coordinator, and or HR.
  • Follow daily procedures and protocols set forth in job orientations and trainings.
  • Perform routine inspection and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and refer defects or needed repairs to supervisor.
  • Clean equipment.
  • Assist in training laborers with performing the maintenance and repair duties, as required or assigned.
  • Assists laborers with hand digging and potholing when needed.
  • May be required to work overtime, including evening hours, weekends, and possible travel to out-of-town assignments.
