About The Position

The Operator-Shipping Forklift works in Rex Lumber’s Shipping/Planer Mill Department. The position operates forklifts and other industrial trucks or tractors to move, load, unload, transport, and stack materials around mills, warehouses, and the log yard. The role includes performing routine equipment maintenance, responding to malfunctions, keeping the work area clean, following safety procedures, and completing other duties assigned by a supervisor. This is a full-time position with 55+ hours per week, Monday through Friday, with an occasional Saturday.

Requirements

At least 1 year of forklift operating experience.
Adequate fitness and stamina for strenuous and physically demanding tasks.
Ability to understand and follow oral or written instructions from supervisors.
Ability to clearly explain problems or give instructions to coworkers to help keep operations running smoothly.
Ability to perform the job with limited supervision.
Understanding of basic machine components and operation, including working around moving mechanical parts and vibration.
Punctuality and ability to stay on task to support production goals.
Ability to work in an industrial environment and as part of a team.
Ability to work a 12-hour shift.
Ability to walk, climb, or stand for long periods.
Ability to bend, stoop, stretch, twist, and reach with the body, arms, and/or legs.
Ability to work outside in all conditions and around loud equipment.
Ability to work in a harness at heights over 4 feet.
Ability to lift 50 pounds throughout the work shift.

Responsibilities

Operate diesel-powered lifts, industrial trucks, tractors, forklifts, and other required machinery to transport materials between loading, processing, and storage areas.
Use lifting-device controls to load, unload, transport, and stack materials.
Perform routine maintenance on vehicles and auxiliary equipment, including cleaning, lubricating, recharging batteries, and fueling.
Stop or reset lifts, vehicles, or machines when malfunctions occur; clear machine jams and report malfunctions to a supervisor.
Participate in the action planning process.
Clean the work area and surrounding areas, keeping them free of debris.
Follow area- and machine-center-specific safety regulations and company safety rules.
Wear required personal protective equipment, including a hardhat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and reflective wear.
Report unsafe or improperly functioning equipment to a supervisor, request help when a task exceeds individual knowledge, and visually inspect equipment and the area before operation.
Use standard lockout procedures when appropriate and follow safe lifting techniques.
Avoid approaching a saw while it is running.
Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.
