About The Position

Performs and coordinates skilled maintenance and operational activities. Operates a variety of specialized heavy construction and maintenance equipment or tools. Performs skilled operational activities and provides technical knowledge regarding assigned functions. Ensures that proper procedures are followed and service quality levels are maintained. Responsibilities include inspecting, maintaining, and performing basic repair of concrete, traffic signals, drainage, and mowing. Also involved in maintaining and repairing street pavement and asphalt, maintaining and replacing culverts, and maintaining vehicles and equipment. Contributes to the overall success of the department by performing other essential duties as assigned and fostering a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds. This position is subject to 24-hour recall and may require overtime, including during emergency situations. In the event of an emergency or required evacuation, the incumbent may be required to remain at work to provide needed services or perform essential duties for the benefit of the general public, which may differ from normal duties.

Requirements

Applicable Federal, state and local laws, codes, regulations and/or ordinances
Equipment, tools, and materials of assigned area
Specialized equipment relevant to area of assignment
Utility vehicle operation techniques
Adhering to safe work practices
Prioritizing work and managing time
High School Diploma or GED and five (5) years of experience related to area of assignment; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job
Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions
Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects

Valid Commercial Driver's License preferred

Subject to 24 hour recall: The City reserves the right to require an employee in this position to work overtime including during emergency situations (defined as any natural or man-made disaster that may or may not necessitate the relocation of City personnel or citizens). In the event of an emergency and/or a required evacuation, the incumbent may be required to remain at work to provide needed services or perform essential duties for the benefit of the general public including services or duties different from those performed in the normal course and scope of the position.
