About The Position

This role involves the setup, operation, and maintenance of pleating system equipment and tooling. The Operator III will use a technical understanding of cause and effect to adjust equipment and tooling to meet quality standards and production requirements. Responsibilities include operating and maintaining equipment, loading and unloading media, preparing and changing out tooling, determining back pressure, maintaining pleat marking systems, and performing media cure validation. The position requires interpreting and applying specifications, maintaining accurate records, ensuring first piece conformance and production rates, and adhering to safety and 5S principles. The role also involves communicating equipment abnormalities, working with minimal supervision, and potentially working overtime. A key aspect is the responsibility and authority related to quality, including stopping production if standards are not met, identifying and recording problems, and reporting unsafe conditions. The Operator III will also assist in coordinating department operations for maximum efficiency and minimal waste, and help foster a team environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrate ability to perform essential functions including ability to move up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to use and understand various precision measuring gauges i.e., feeler gauges, calipers etc.
  • Knowledge of applicable Work Instructions/Assembly Processes.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively.
  • Some knowledge/understanding of schedules.
  • Have basic knowledge of machine functions and required set-up responsibilities.
  • Must be able to work under physical conditions include standing/walking/lifting/kneeling, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the setup, adjustment, and operation of machinery to produce goods or parts according to specifications.
  • Support the acquisition of operation plans and carry out the processing of manufacturing batches of bulk materials/ingredients, including mechanical processing.
  • Perform cleaning, servicing, and routine maintenance on machines.
  • Monitor machines during operation to ensure proper functioning and carry out repairs as needed.
  • Identify problems with machines and support the optimization of processes for troubleshooting.
  • Administer operational processes and keep accurate records of machine performance.
  • Set-up, operate, and maintain pleating system equipment and tooling.
  • Use technical understanding of cause and effect of pleat shape to adjust pleating equipment and tooling.
  • Operate and maintain equipment and tooling according to requirements.
  • Load and unload media from skids.
  • Install media rolls on unwind stand.
  • Prepare splicing unit as needed.
  • Change out pleater tooling as needed.
  • Set-up star wheels as needed.
  • Set-up folding section as needed.
  • Determine back pressure weights/locations as needed.
  • Maintain pleat marking system fluid level.
  • Make adjustments such as roller gap and timing, star wheel spacing & timing as needed to meet quality standards and print requirements.
  • Perform Media cure validation.
  • Interpret and apply specifications such as drawings, routings, etc.
  • Maintain appropriate records such as QA forms, PM logs, etc.
  • Maintain 1st piece conformance and production rate.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized work area through 5S and Kaizens.
  • Operate all equipment in accordance with safety requirements.
  • Communicate any equipment abnormalities to Supervisor & Maintenance.
  • Work with minimal supervision and able to work overtime as required/needed.
  • Possess leadership skills and grow as a leader within the department.
  • Ensure that quality standards are met.
  • STOP, CALL, WAIT protocol.
  • Initiate, recommend, or provide solutions through designated channels.
  • Identify and record any problems relating to the product, process, and the quality system.
  • Accurately complete all required documentation concerning production quantities, defectives, etc.
  • Report any unsafe working condition.
  • Help create a team environment among all department personnel.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Operate department maximizing efficiency and minimizing/eliminating scrap and waste.
  • Assist set-up person in coordinating the use of people, materials, equipment, and time to operate production department in an efficient, effective manner.
