About The Position

Great Lakes Wine and Spirits is seeking an Operations Supervisor to work the Night Shift at one of our depots in the Detroit area. The Warehouse Supervisor will oversee operational performance by assisting and covering fellow managers and supervisors with daily assignments, taking into account: volume, call-offs, and employee training needs. Proper communication with management and fellow team members is crucial. This role involves mitigating and monitoring careless behavior, breakage, idle & over-time, and excessive or inappropriate supply usage. Following safety and security guidelines is paramount, including cleanliness, PPE compliance, biomechanical techniques, potential hazards, MHE certs, suspicious activity and theft. The supervisor will also be responsible for opening/closing/resetting work areas and/or buildings as dictated by protocol, and auditing work area drops zones to ensure product is physically and electronically handled correctly. Daily surveying of assigned work area(s) to identify & correct issues not in line with shift/company goals is expected. Ensuring work area SOPs / responsibilities are properly and timely addressed is also a key function. Additionally, the role involves maintaining logs pertinent to payroll and employee information, verifying punches, approving overtime, and recording leave. Assisting with hiring, reprimanding, and discharging direct reports under management supervision, and authoring/submitting injury, disciplinary, and other assigned forms in a timely manner are also part of the responsibilities. Finally, Warehouse Supervisors will train, develop, lead, counsel, delegate, and performance coach to ensure nightly objectives are met, conduct team meetings, monitor and maximize employee engagement, and ensure safety guidelines are communicated and followed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2-3 consecutive years of experience in a warehouse lead or supervisor role using warehouse management systems.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience sorting and picking or production in a warehouse distribution center (food and beverage industry preferred).
  • Ability to operate warehouse equipment.
  • Ability to be active and on your feet for an entire shift.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct team meetings on subject matter delegated by Warehouse Management, as well as HR and Safety.
  • Monitor and maximize employee engagement via recognition and accountability interactions with direct reports.
  • Ensure safety guidelines are communicated and followed by direct reports.
  • Ensure equipment assigned to or required by direct reports is maintained, available and functioning properly.
