About The Position

The Operations Supervising Engineer is responsible for supervising and training their direct reports, monitoring, reporting, data collection and displays of all power generation performance instrumentation, the performance control systems and electrical equipment in the power plant and the associated facilities. This role also involves the inspection, repair, testing, adjustment, and installation of systems associated with operational performance, and making decisions within prescribed operating and casualty procedures and guidelines. The Operations Supervising Engineer must ensure all work is performed safely, in compliance with environmental permits, and effectively communicate plant conditions and improvement suggestions to management and personnel. The role also requires performing duties to achieve an optimum cost-benefit ratio, and all employees are responsible for doing the job right the first time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related discipline)
  • 1+ years of power generation experience
  • Graduation from an accredited Instrument Technician or Performance Analyst or Engineering Program and five years of work experience as a technician in a related industry may be substituted for the above requirement.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with others and be self-directed.
  • Ability to apply creative solutions to unique I&E problems.
  • Must be able to work from blueprints.
  • Must be familiar with the safe operations of hand and power-driven tools.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Experience in working with Instruments and Control voltages highly desirable.
  • Working knowledge of simple cycle (braeton cycle) gas turbines, Rankine Cycle steam plants and combined cycle plants.
  • Desire to supervise a team and treat all members with respect, dignity and fairness.
  • Ability to read mechanical and electrical prints.
  • Ability to work with various computer applications (MS Office, Paycom, Nite Owl, Stack Vision, Pi, Ovation, Maximo etc.).
  • Knowledge of hazards involved and safety precautions to be practiced in the operation and maintenance of power plant equipment and machinery.
  • Ability to respond to audio alarms and variations of sound.
  • Strong data entry computer skills.

Nice To Haves

  • EIT or Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • 1+ years of leadership experience, supervisory, team lead, or military leadership
  • Experience with combined‑cycle, combustion turbine, or large thermal generation assets
  • Familiarity with physical and cyber security requirements
  • Experience working in regulated or compliance‑driven environments

Responsibilities

  • Perform monitoring of operational data collection instruments and repair all major equipment and systems as well as emergency backup systems.
  • Maintain complete equipment files, logs, and drawings for all designated equipment.
  • Forecast, inventory, and reorder spare parts to maintain plant reliability.
  • Assist in physical inventories.
  • Participate in the administrative maintenance of the plant operating manuals, technical references, prints and diagrams and preventive/predictive maintenance records.
  • Conduct trouble shooting and analysis on Digital Control System, Programmable Logic Controller and SCADA systems, and their input devices.
  • Complete other tasks as requested by the Operations Manager.
  • Provide data analysis and reporting of routine evolutions such as startups, shutdowns, max load testing, boiler and turbine air in leakage, etc.
  • Perform trend analysis including performance data for troubleshooting, compliance reporting and/or budgeting purposes.
  • Manage and report on the chemistry program.
  • Provide daily reporting of system performance including heat rate, water consumption, chemistry management, condenser and turbine efficiency, fuel usage/inventory, etc. and the possible causes.
  • Collect data from multiple sources such as recorders, PI, SCADA, log entries, procedural reviews and production technician rounds.
  • Ensure accurate unit reported status using GADS platform.

Benefits

  • Salary range for this role is $145K - $185K annual base salary.
