About The Position

IHI Power Services Corp. (IPSC) has a career opportunity for a Operation Supervisor Engineering at our Ravenswood Power Plant located in Long Island City, NY. The salary range for this role is $145K - $185K annual base salary. The Operation Supervising Engineer position will report to Operations Manager. Ravenswood Generating Station is a 2,000 MW electric generating station on 28 acres located in Long Island City, Queens, NY along the East River. It consists of three steam turbine plants (1750 MWs), one GE 7FA combined cycle plant (250 MWs), Ravenswood is a component of the New York City generation supply.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related discipline)
  • 1+ years of power generation experience
  • Graduation from an accredited Instrument Technician or Performance Analyst or Engineering Program and five years of work experience as a technician in a related industry may be substituted for the above requirement.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with others and be self-directed, as well as apply creative solutions to unique I&E problems is required.
  • Must be able to work from blueprints.
  • Must be familiar with the safe operations of hand and power-driven tools.
  • Must have excellent organizational skills.
  • Must have working knowledge of simple cycle (braeton cycle) gas turbines, Rankine Cycle steam plants and combined cycle plants.
  • Must have the desire to supervise a team and treat all members with respect, dignity and fairness.
  • Must have the ability to read mechanical and electrical prints
  • Must have the ability to work with various computer applications (MS Office, Paycom, Nite Owl, Stack Vision, Pi, Ovation, Maximo etc.)
  • Must know the hazards involved and the safety precautions to be practiced in the operation and maintenance of power plant equipment and machinery.
  • Work within and insure strict adherence to all safety practices and procedures.
  • Must be able to respond to audio alarms and variations of sound.
  • Strong data entry computer skills.

Nice To Haves

  • EIT or Professional Engineer (PE) license a plus
  • 1+ years of leadership experience, supervisory, team lead, or military leadership
  • Experience with combined‑cycle, combustion turbine, or large thermal generation assets
  • Familiarity with physical and cyber security requirements
  • Experience working in regulated or compliance‑driven environments
  • Experience in working with Instruments and Control voltages highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Supervising & training their direct reports.
  • Monitoring, reporting, data collection and displays of all power generation performance instrumentation.
  • Performance control systems and electrical equipment in the power plant and the associated facilities.
  • Inspection, repair, testing, adjustment, installation of systems associated with operational performance.
  • Establishing and using well-known procedures; decisions that are made within prescribed operating and casualty procedures and guidelines.
  • Performing and ensuring direct reports work in a safe manner resulting in no accidents, in compliance with all environmental permits at all times.
  • Effectively communicating information to management and fellow plant personnel, relative to the condition of the plant equipment and performance and provide suggestions for plant improvements.
  • Performing duties in such a way to result in an optimum cost-benefit ratio.
  • Monitoring of operational data collection instruments and repair all major equipment and systems as well as emergency backup systems.
  • Maintaining complete equipment files, logs, and drawings for all designated equipment.
  • Forecasting, inventorying, and reordering spare parts to maintain plant reliability. Assisting in physical inventories.
  • Participating in the administrative maintenance of the plant operating manuals, technical references, prints and diagrams and preventive/predictive maintenance records.
  • Conducting trouble shooting and analysis on Digital Control System, Programmable Logic Controller and SCADA systems, and their input devices.
  • Completing other tasks as requested by the Operations Manager.
  • Providing data analysis and reporting of routine evolutions such as startups, shutdowns, max load testing, boiler and turbine air in leakage, etc.
  • Providing trend analysis including performance data for troubleshooting, compliance reporting and/or budgeting purposes.
  • Providing chemistry program management and reporting the health of the program.
  • Providing daily reporting of system performance including heat rate, water consumption, chemistry management, condenser and turbine efficiency, fuel usage/inventory, etc. and the possible causes.
  • Collecting data from multiple sources such as recorders, PI, SCADA, log entries, procedural reviews and production technician rounds.
  • Ensuring accurate unit reported status using GADS platform.
