Operations Summer Student (Hourly)
About The Position
Our Dimensional Lumber mill offers Summer Students the chance to learn and earn in a safe production environment. You will work with production teams to ensure lumber is produced safely and efficiently, while gaining experience and saving for future studies. This role provides all necessary training to succeed and develop skills for a potential life-long career. Tolko is seeking Operations Summer Students for its innovative lumber mill near Vernon, British Columbia, specifically at the Lavington Division, which has been operating for over 60 years. At Lavington, the company safely and sustainably produces 238 million board feet of lumber annually for global customers.
Requirements
- Be an active post-secondary student, returning to school in fall 2026.
- Find hard work satisfying and consider safety non-negotiable.
- Be a great communicator that can work independently while still contributing to the overall performance of the team.
Nice To Haves
- Previous experience in a forest products environment.
Responsibilities
- Work independently as part of a high-performance team dedicated to safely and efficiently producing lumber.
- Perform a variety of labour duties to increase productivity and reduce safety risks.
- Utilize strong problem-solving skills to analyze and troubleshoot in your area, and communicate with your team lead to get things back on track.
- Work a variety of shifts, including evenings and weekends, to gain exposure to all aspects of the business.
