About The Position

The Operations Specialist-Quality Compliance (Quality & Compliance Auditor) is responsible for overseeing material quality, regulatory compliance, and reporting accuracy within the MRF. This role is critical to ensuring outbound commodities meet customer specifications, inbound materials align with program requirements, and all reporting obligations are completed with a high degree of accuracy and consistency. The position also serves as a key liaison between operations, leadership, and external stakeholders on all quality and compliance matters.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (accredited).
  • 3–5 years of experience in recycling, waste management, manufacturing, or quality assurance environments.
  • Strong understanding of MRF operations, commodity grades, and contamination standards preferred.
  • Experience with data analysis, reporting, and performance tracking.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance and audit processes is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and reporting systems.

Responsibilities

  • Execute material audits in accordance with Circular Materials Ontario (CMO) protocols, contractual requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Interpret and apply evolving regulatory, program, and customer requirements to site operations.
  • Act as the primary on-site point of contact for CMO representatives, regulatory agencies, and third-party auditors.
  • Conduct detailed material composition and contamination analyses using standardized sampling methodologies and audit frameworks.
  • Validate contamination thresholds and measure performance against contractual KPIs and program expectations.
  • Prepare and deliver accurate, timely audit reports for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Monitor material quality and contamination trends across all streams; identify recurring issues and root causes.
  • Recommend and support corrective actions to improve material quality, recovery rates, and overall operational performance.
  • Collaborate with operations teams to address quality concerns in real time and influence process improvements.
  • Lead or support root cause investigations related to audit findings, compliance gaps, or quality issues.
  • Serve as site lead for audit readiness, inspections, and ongoing compliance activities.
  • Ensure adherence to all regulatory, environmental, customer, and program reporting requirements.
  • Own and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly reporting related to quality, residue, inbound/outbound materials, and inventory accuracy.
  • Ensure accuracy in data entry, validation, and analysis across audit tools, reporting platforms, and internal systems.
  • Analyze performance data to identify opportunities to reduce residue, improve recovery, and optimize operations.
  • Communicate audit findings clearly and professionally, demonstrating sound judgment and accountability.
  • Provide training and guidance to sorters, operators, and supervisors on material identification, quality standards, and contamination reduction.
  • Support onboarding and continuous improvement initiatives related to quality and compliance.
  • Act as a key liaison between operations, leadership, and external stakeholders on quality-related matters.
