About The Position

As an intern on ISO New England’s Operations team, you’ll design and build custom software tools that make the electric grid run smarter and faster. From coding in Python, R, or SQL to analyzing data and automating processes, you’ll work on projects that directly impact how New England’s power system operates. Our job is to oversee the 24/7 operation of the power grid that covers the six-states of New England and to administer the region’s $10+ billion “stock exchange” for buying and selling of wholesale electricity. Our work ensures that over 14 million people can reliably turn their lights on and complete their jobs, take care of their families, and live in comfort with convenience. The Program Management Office (PMO) Department manages or delivers major projects requiring extensive cross-departmental participation. The department’s key responsibilities include enhancing grid reliability and market efficiency through the implementation of major corporate projects and ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and free of errors.

Requirements

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience with relational databases and application development.
  • Must have completed at least the first year of college and be currently enrolled in a four year or graduate-level academic program.
  • Must have the authority to work in the US on a permanent basis, without requiring sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with multiple programming languages, such as R, Python, MATLAB, VBA, SQL, and C#.

Responsibilities

  • Review existing software and processes used by PMO teams to identify areas for improvement.
  • Design, develop, test, implement, and maintain bespoke software solutions.
  • Perform occasional data analysis to support departmental decision-making.
  • Collaborate with OAT staff and SOMA business teams to support ongoing projects and initiatives.
