Operations Manufacturing Test Lead

Bedrock Robotics Inc•San Francisco, CA

About The Position

Bedrock Robotics is seeking a Manufacturing Test Engineer to design, build, and scale robust test systems that ensure product quality from early hardware development through high-volume manufacturing and fleet deployment. The role sits at the intersection of hardware engineering, manufacturing, and quality, with ownership of test strategy, infrastructure, and execution to identify design, process, workmanship, and component-level issues before products reach the field. The position develops automated, data-driven test frameworks and diagnostic systems to support fast bring-up, broad test coverage, and scalable production operations. The role spans test strategy and framework development; automated test development; work-order and manufacturing execution integration; product and manufacturing-line bring-up; diagnostics and failure analysis; reliability and sustaining testing; test coverage and continuous improvement; and data, automation, and scaling. It involves supporting EVT/DVT/PVT builds, production ramp, test station deployment, operator training, root-cause analysis, reliability testing, and improvements to yield and test efficiency. The position calls for a hands-on, analytical approach and comfort working in both factory-floor and lab environments. Domestic and international travel of up to 30% is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing test, hardware validation, or production engineering.
  • Experience supporting NPI builds (EVT/DVT/PVT) and scaling production ramp.
  • Strong experience with automated test development and scripting; Python preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, DAQs, power supplies, and sensors.
  • Familiarity with MES systems, work-order configuration, and manufacturing workflows.
  • Experience with hardware-software integration and embedded systems testing.
  • Knowledge of diagnostics, failure analysis, and reliability testing methodologies.
  • Experience with data analysis tools such as Python, SQL, or similar.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 30%.
  • Ability to work hands-on in factory-floor and lab environments and to make data-driven, root-cause-focused decisions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with robotics, autonomous systems, or complex electromechanical products.
  • Experience with high-volume manufacturing and contract manufacturer environments.
  • Experience with vision systems, calibration processes, or system-level testing.
  • Experience with HIL/SIL testing frameworks.
  • Ability to manage and resolve complex challenges with little to no established playbooks, using creative and proven strategic thinking.
  • Proven track record of identifying, managing, and mitigating risks in large, complex programs.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to thrive in a fast-moving, constantly evolving environment.

Responsibilities

  • Define end-to-end manufacturing test strategy across EVT, DVT, PVT, and production.
  • Develop scalable hardware test frameworks for functional, system-level, and end-of-line testing, and architect test systems that can scale from prototype builds to high-volume manufacturing.
  • Establish test coverage goals for detecting design defects, component quality issues, manufacturing process variation, and workmanship defects.
  • Design and implement functional test systems for electrical, mechanical, and system-level validation.
  • Develop automated test scripts and sequences using Python or similar languages; integrate test equipment such as DAQs, sensors, vision systems, and robotics interfaces.
  • Build diagnostic tools, data logging, traceability, and test-result analytics to isolate failures and reduce debugging time.
  • Configure and manage work orders and test flows within MES or manufacturing systems, including test steps, pass/fail criteria, routing logic, and result traceability.
  • Partner with manufacturing teams to optimize throughput and minimize test time.
  • Lead test bring-up for new products during EVT/DVT/PVT builds; deploy and validate production-line test stations; debug early build issues and iterate on test coverage and methods.
  • Train operators and technicians on test processes and troubleshooting.
  • Develop diagnostic workflows and partner with hardware, firmware, and quality teams on root-cause analysis; distinguish design issues, supplier defects, and manufacturing errors.
  • Implement containment actions and feed improvements back into testing and design.
  • Design and execute reliability and stress testing, including burn-in, environmental, and lifecycle testing; monitor failure trends and align validation testing with production test coverage.
  • Define and track test coverage metrics and escape rates; improve test effectiveness, reduce field failures and returns, optimize test time and cost, and improve first-pass yield.
  • Build systems for automated data collection, analysis, and reporting; use scripting and software tools to streamline test development and execution.
  • Implement scalable solutions for multi-line, multi-site manufacturing and use advanced tools, including AI agents or machine learning where applicable, for anomaly detection, failure classification, and predictive insights.
  • Review production data and failure trends, respond to line issues, and coordinate containment and investigations with manufacturing, quality, and engineering teams.
  • Update MES flows, refine test limits, improve throughput, build data-visibility dashboards, and align with subsequent shifts or offshore teams.
