About The Position

USG is seeking an Operations Manager to lead two board production lines, Supply Chain and Quality Department. This role oversees approximately 114 employees, including General Foremen, Foremen, and Supervisors. The Operations Manager is responsible for training, motivating, and ensuring the safety of all department employees to maintain efficient operations consistent with company safety objectives. This position champions continuous improvement through standard work, Reflection meetings, value-added metrics, GEMBA walks, and accountability, utilizing data-driven decision-making. The role requires proactive development and implementation of strategies to meet efficiency goals, ensuring adherence to USG, UL, and PEI bulletin requirements, and verifying that departments meet or exceed cost goals. The Operations Manager must be adept at recognizing employee strengths and weaknesses, providing coaching, and motivating individuals and teams. Continuous development planning and implementation for department employees, along with the development of a realistic succession plan, are essential. The role also involves overseeing capital project implementation within the Operating Department and frequent, effective interaction with manufacturing, engineering, technical services, research, sales, and customers to define product specifications and enhance product reliability and acceptance. Highly developed technical skills are needed to drive plant advancement through automation and technology recognition and implementation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (preferred)
  • Prior experience as a USG department manager.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with strong communication (verbal and written) skills.
  • Knowledgeable of safety compliance programs with a strong emphasis on safety and housekeeping.
  • Willing and able to maintain the high safety standards, with a desire to improve upon what is already in place.
  • Ability to make quick, accurate decisions.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the capability to identify key issues and provide an appropriate, proactive response.
  • Strategic thinker with a clear vision of what needs to be accomplished and how to attain it.
  • Desire to actively manage and develop others; provide guidance and recognition in conjunction with USG’s philosophy of talent management and retention.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively lead two board production lines, Supply Chain and Quality Department.
  • Responsible for training, motivating and maintaining a level of safety for all department employees to provide for an efficient operation, consistent with overall company safety objectives.
  • Champion continuous improvement across the department through standard work, Reflection meetings, to include creation of value-added metrics on Reflection boards, GEMBA walks and accountability.
  • Be data driven to initiate decision making.

  • Verify all departments are on track and exceeding established cost goals.

  • Oversee the implementation of capital projects under the Operating Department.
