Operations Manager/Shift Supervisor
About The Position
Volunteers of America–Greater New York (VOA–Greater New York) is a leading anti-poverty organization serving neighbors in need across New York City, Northern New Jersey, and Westchester. Through 70+ programs, we support over 35,000 adults and children each year, including individuals experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, youth aging out of foster care, veterans, seniors, and children with developmental delays. The Operations Manager is responsible for facilitating daily shelter operations. The Schwartz Assessment Shelter is a shelter for men operating 24 hours a day and seven days a week. Clients are referred to the program by the New York City Department of Homeless Services.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred plus one-year of relevant experience working in a similar capacity in a social services setting.
- Must possess good interpersonal skills and basic computer knowledge.
- Certifications in security required and Fire Safety (F-80) obtained within 3 months of hire.
Responsibilities
- Supervise delivery of program services including intake, bed assignments, case management services, distribution of client mail, lockers, meal cards and medication.
- Ensure optimal customer service is being provided to clients.
- Ensure recreation activities are occurring.
- Ensures the facility is adequately staffed at all times.
- Work with DHS PD to ensure the daily security and safety of the facility.
- Supervise facility maintenance, cleaning staff and fire safety.
- Manage community relations and communicate with relevant authorities as needed.
