About The Position

The Operations Manager II, Fleet Transportation role focuses on managing and optimizing fleet operations within a large retail environment. This position involves overseeing various aspects of asset management, data analysis, exception management, fleet readiness, safety and compliance, shipping and transportation, and vendor management. The role requires a strong understanding of logistics, financial principles, and technology to ensure efficient and safe operations. Additionally, the manager is responsible for associate engagement, team building, and upholding company values and sustainability goals. This role is crucial for maintaining the smooth functioning of the supply chain and ensuring customer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field (e.g., Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Financial Management, Production/Operations Management) and 1 year experience in an operations/distribution/logistics/retail environment, supervising, evaluating, mentoring, and developing managers/supervisors; managing workload; and participating in the hiring and promotion of employees
  • OR 1 year experience as a Walmart Logistics Area or Operations Manager supervising, evaluating, mentoring, and developing associates; managing associate workload; and participating in the hiring and promotion of associates
  • OR 1 year experience as a Walmart Logistics Load Manager
  • OR 3 years experience in an operations/distribution/logistics/retail environment, supervising, evaluating, mentoring, and developing managers/supervisors; managing workload; and participating in the hiring and promotion of employees
  • Knowledge of Fundamentals of asset management, enterprise asset management plan, lifecycle of assets, acquisition, operation, maintenance, and renewal, total cost of ownership concept related to assets, and awareness of parts inventory lead time.
  • Knowledge of Data collection modes, techniques, and tools, data analytics, visualization tools and techniques, existing and upcoming digital applications and systems, technology innovation trends, industry benchmarks, data governance (quality, metadata, lineage), and Data Science techniques.
  • Knowledge of truck transportation loss control practices, tools, and techniques, ability to assess, prevent, and reduce loss, and recommend solutions for trucking risks.
  • Knowledge of scheduling and reporting related operational and financial KPIs, preventive maintenance, and carrier quality.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices, safety and compliance standards, local, state, and federal regulatory agencies, audit steps, tools, and resources, accident prevention, risk mitigation, change management, and business unit knowledge and performance requirements.
  • Knowledge of routing, network plan, delivery scheduling, vehicle utilization, inbound/outbound operations, and Department of Transportation guidelines and regulations.
  • Knowledge of stakeholder identification and mapping, stakeholder analysis, stakeholder communication, relevant business metrics, and stakeholder management tools and methods.

Responsibilities

  • Execute systematic methods for effectively operating and upgrading assets, including implementing inventory procedures and software tools.
  • Describe and create status and management reports, such as exceptions or on-demand materials.
  • Execute procedures for recording the acquisition, sales, and disposal of supply chain-related assets.
  • Delineate problems, leverage data to determine root causes, and apply information to find solutions.
  • Articulate levers that influence data, ensure data quality, and organize/process information for analysis.
  • Participate in the feedback loop between data intake and insights, continually improving the data collection process.
  • Identify and propose ways to automate or improve existing processes using technology like RPA, AI, and Machine Learning.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of Data Science techniques and their applications to the respective function/business.
  • Emerge process issues between cross-functional groups through data and reporting to improve planning and mitigate risk.
  • Help identify tasks suited for automation and assist in process design and implementation of automated processes.
  • Leverage data to assist in developing action plans and identifying appropriate network resources for disruption events.
  • Manage scheduling and reporting of the fleet, considering seasonality and contingencies.
  • Manage the budget for ensuring fleet availability from various channels (owned, leased, market).
  • Manage fleet maintenance and carrier quality from multiple Third Party Logistics providers and different vehicle categories.
  • Monitor processes within a given business unit, taking action to address issues, respond to questions, and support safety and compliance needs.
  • Make process improvement recommendations by identifying incident patterns and process gaps, and selecting possible solutions.
  • Identify trends affecting proper operations and execute risk elimination plans.
  • Design safe workplace processes and policies, ensuring business goals align with safety and compliance standards.
  • Conduct safety and compliance assessments and audits of transportation safety management processes.
  • Deliver safety and compliance training programs and communications.
  • Execute and manage the root cause analysis plan in the area of work.
  • Use transport operation documents to manage the operational flow for different load carriers and goods categories.
  • Analyze capacity of distribution systems and use network analysis methods for planning new networks.
  • Ensure optimal vehicle utilization based on network requirements, considering seasonality and special situations.
  • Execute best practices as provided in SOPs and support leaders with gap identification in operations.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and stakeholders to identify and implement innovative ideas.
  • Review supplier details, assess capabilities and competencies within the business context, and submit recommendations.
  • Monitor and report on supplier performance and implement strategies to improve performance through negotiation of KPIs and SLAs.
  • Resolve complex vendor issues and escalate when necessary.
  • Coordinate and complete job-related activities by developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Support plans and initiatives to meet customer and business needs, identifying and communicating goals.
  • Build accountability for and measure progress in achieving results.
  • Identify and address improvement opportunities and demonstrate adaptability.
