Operations Manager - Data Collection

Standard BotsGlen Cove, NY
$80,000 - $90,000Onsite

About The Position

Standard Bots is seeking a Data Collection Operations Manager to oversee their on-site data collection floor. This role involves managing a team responsible for collecting hands-on demonstration data crucial for training Standard Bots' AI models. Initially, the position requires a player-coach approach, working alongside the team to set standards and ensure quality and output targets are met. As the team scales, the role will transition to a more pure management function, including building a supervisory layer, hiring, and developing team members. The manager will coordinate with internal teams, manage inventory, and track key performance metrics to ensure the team meets aggressive end-of-year targets. This role reports directly to the Head of AI Solutions & Strategy.

Requirements

  • 2-4 years of experience managing or supervising hourly workers in a warehouse, factory, production floor, or similar structured environment.
  • Comfortable being a player-coach.

  • Experience managing repetitive, high-volume work.
  • Organized and proactive.
  • Clear communicator, written and verbal.
  • Experience building or improving processes.
  • Comfortable with spreadsheets, trackers, and metrics reporting.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience scaling a small team quickly — hiring, onboarding, and ramping up production capacity.
  • Familiarity with data collection, annotation, or quality control operations.
  • Any exposure to robotics, manufacturing automation, or tech environments.
  • Startup or fast-scaling environment experience.

Responsibilities

  • Run day-to-day operations for the data collection floor.

  • Keep the team engaged and productive through structured, repetitive work.
  • Manage consumables, supplies, parts, and inventory for the floor.
  • Manage task rollout and retirement in line with research priorities.
  • Own the quality standard for the floor, building and improving QA processes.
  • Build and maintain trackers, documentation, and reporting for output, quality, and team performance.
  • Own the data from collection to hand-off, tracking, ensuring no loss or mislabeling, and investigating quality issues.
  • Identify and drive improvements to reduce output loss in the process.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to ensure task assignments, equipment, and tooling are ready.
  • Flag upstream delays or blockers early.
  • Maintain a backlog of approved work.
  • Hire and onboard new collectors as the team grows.
  • Build the supervisory layer beneath you as the team scales.
