About The Position

The SJRA is a public entity whose mission is to develop, conserve, and protect the water resources of the San Jacinto River basin. Its primary purpose is to implement long-term, regional projects related to water supply and water quality. SJRA delivers raw water to both municipal and industrial consumers and provides water treatment and wastewater services through the ownership, operation, and maintenance of infrastructure including reservoirs, groundwater wells, surface water and wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, lift stations, and miles of open channel and conveyance systems. The Operations and Maintenance Technician 4 is responsible for operating motorized moving equipment such as excavators, bull dozers, motor grader, backhoe, skid steer and tractors with various implements and attachments to maintain canals, levees, roadways, and other Authority property. This role also performs or assists in the performance of preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance of the division's hydraulic and mechanical equipment, buildings, structures, and/or other facilities in order to maintain optimal safety, efficiency, quality, and reliability. Also, this role requires the utilization of SCADA to ensure efficient operations of the Raw Water System to meet customer demands and assistance with construction activities as identified.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 7+ years of experience in heavy civil/site construction with emphasis on road and/or levee building, building pads and underground utilities or combined related experience and/or training in similar tasks.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s license with an insurable driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • CDL preferred.
  • Aquatic Herbicide License preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operates heavy motorized equipment such as excavators, bull dozers, motorgrader, backhoe, skid steer and tractors with various implements and attachments to maintain canals, levees, roadways, and other Authority property.
  • Operates Authority vehicles and/or vehicle/trailer/equipment combinations less than gross vehicle weight of 26001 lb. (unless CDL certified) on Authority property and public roadways, safely and in accordance with Authority policy and federal, state, and local laws.
  • Fastens attachments, such as graders, plows, and rollers, to tractor with hitch pins; operates tractor using attached equipment to complete various operational and maintenance tasks.
  • Conducts preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration and repair of hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and/or control systems, rotating and stationary equipment, heavy civil works, buildings, structures, and other facilities.
  • Processes maintenance activities and work orders using the Enterprise Asset Management System (EAM) and properly documents, organizes, and files correspondence, reports and records related to maintenance activities within the system.
  • Operates various types of welding equipment to replace and fabricate metals for various processes when needed.
  • Operates small equipment and tools such as mowers, ATV's, vegetation sprayers, chainsaws, overhead cranes,mobile actuators,brush chippers, and jackhammers to maintain canals and levees.
  • Works collaboratively with crew to perform field maintenance and construction activities such as digging ditches and trenches, hoisting material, tools, equipment, and any related work with a backhoe, grater, or bull dozer.
  • Performs timely operational activities related to the Raw Water System including the pump stations and gate control structures along the entire system to meet customers' raw water demands.
  • Utilizes SCADA data to monitor the levels/flows of the Raw Water System and in decision making related to timely adjustments and efficient operations.
  • Monitors canal and reservoir water levels visually and through the use of SCADA to ensure that pumping rates are adequate to meet system customer demands.
  • Applies herbicide control along the entire canal system to keep the weed growth under control.
  • Trains, mentors and develops staff to effectively perform job tasks and meet safety guidelines to achieve the overall goals and objectives of the department/division and SJRA.
  • Completes all tasks as scheduled and prioritized, including routine and emergency work, to assure minimal impact to operations.
  • Depending on the need decided by division management, available to work and/or be on-call during emergency situations, including inclement/extreme weather and/or due to operational/maintenance issues.
  • Follows safety regulations, policies, principles, and procedures.
  • Utilizes all appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • This position is classified as a safety sensitive position. The individual holding this position is subject to random, unannounced drug and alcohol testing.
  • This position is classified as primary essential personnel. The individual holding this position will be required to work as usual or as needed (1) during an emergency event, (2) in preparation for an emergency event,and/ or (3) during recovery from an emergency event as directed by their direct supervisor, appropriate Department/Division Manager, the appropriate Senior Level Manager, or the General Manager.
