About The Position

LyondellBasell is a leader in the global chemical industry, focused on creating solutions for everyday sustainable living and enabling a more sustainable future. The Corpus Christi plant is seeking a Maintenance Electrical Technician, preferably with Industrial High Voltage testing and repair experience, to join their dynamic team. In this position, you will apply technical expertise daily to ensure the safe and reliable operation of site equipment, execute assigned work according to plan and schedule, and safely troubleshoot, analyze, and repair components of high and low voltage systems. These systems and components include motors, transformers, switchgear, lighting, relays, PLC, battery systems, UPS systems, and similar equipment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years industrial electrical experience or 5 years electrical experience with 2-year technical degree in electrical technology.
  • Currently possess or be able to qualify for a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
  • Understanding of equipment design and application for various types of electrical and/or instrumentation: transformers, motor starters, circuit breakers, control circuits, etc.
  • Fundamental understanding of specification sheets, loop diagrams, and P&ID's, is required.
  • Must be willing and able to provide overtime coverage and work occasional plan callouts.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language.
  • Must be willing to work with hazardous and/or flammable chemicals (with proper safety precautions, training and equipment).
  • Must be willing to work around and/or manually interact with heavy equipment.
  • Must be willing and able to work in tight or confined spaces.
  • Must adhere to all rules and procedures, contribute to a team setting.
  • Availability to work shifts including weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Complete tasks wearing required personal protective equipment which may include fire protective clothing, goggles, face shields, gloves, steel toe boots, hearing protection, respirators, etc.
  • Basic computer software and hardware familiarity including competency with MS Office (Word, Excel & Outlook).
  • Skilled in basic mathematics including first level algebra.
  • High commitment to the craft and willing to learn and accept new challenges.
  • Self-starter and capable of leading formal or informal work groups.
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions, elevated heights (above 25 feet by climbing stairs and vertical ladders) and noisy areas.
  • Must be able to prepare unit equipment and operation process for maintenance work.
  • Walking various distances
  • Climbing ladders and stairs up to 180 feet or greater on a rare basis and up to 100 feet occasionally.
  • Climbing and crawling in pipe racks.
  • Carrying tools (approximately up to 10 lbs.) and ladders up to 50 lbs.
  • Grasping, reaching, maneuvering and working in tight places

  • 6 to 8 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • OSHA certified to work on high voltage or Journeyman Electrician’s License
  • Associate of Science in Electrical technology
  • Safely isolating electrical equipment, defects in wiring, switches, motors, motor control centers, breakers, and transformers through Lock Out, Tag Out.
  • Safely using hand and power tools applicable to trade.
  • Safely operating electronic and electrical test instruments, diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot, repair and test electrical equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for personal safety with strict adherence to procedures and company policies, the safety of coworkers and promoting a safe work environment; the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and responsible for carrying out all work activities in compliance with federal and state environmental regulations.
  • Perform High/Low voltage switching activities.
  • Energize/De-energize breakers and switches up to 13.8 KV.
  • Troubleshoot/repair 4160 volt and 480-volt motors and associated control circuits.
  • Install and maintain various types of motors, motor control systems, motor operated valves, generators, transformers, circuit breakers, variable frequency drives (VFD), UPS systems, Battery systems and High Resistance Ground units.
  • Interpret Electrical One-line drawings, Electrical Schematics, Instrument loop drawings, PID and perform work by these or verbal instructions.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on High Voltage Substations, High Voltage Transformers, Breakers and distribution panels with the ability to use Manta Test Set for relay testing and motor starter PM.
  • Install ground leads.
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems with proficient use of test equipment such as High Potential test equipment, Digital Low Resistance Ohmmeter and Digital Multi-Meter.
  • Receive training in new or changes in codes, procedures, and processes relating to the industrial electrical field.
  • Execute scheduled work by reviewing assigned job scopes, acquiring necessary parts/tools/instructions, following safety procedures (Lock Out/Tag Out), ensuring work completion per standards, working with equipment owners, updating supervisors, and completing documentation using a computerized maintenance management system.
  • Respond to tasks as directed by maintenance supervision with the appropriate sense of urgency to minimize impact to process units.
  • Identify and implement reliability driven improvements, potentially including participation in site reliability teams.
  • Participate on committees dealing with investigations, policy and procedure development, and improving the workplace environment.
  • Mentor other technicians when necessary.
  • Engage in frequent developmental dialog with supervisor and others to continually enhance personal and group performance and development.
