Operations Engineer III - Special Missions
About The Position
Under moderate supervision, this role provides direct technical support to manufacturing operations and internal customers. The position involves developing procedures and processes to streamline and optimize manufacturing operations, interfacing with external suppliers for supplier-related issues, and providing guidance and mentoring to entry-level OE staff members. The Operations Engineer III will be responsible for ensuring the manufacturing process meets operational goals by maintaining detailed work instructions, driving quality and efficiency improvements, enhancing material presentation, managing the daily work plan, providing performance metrics, and coordinating engineering and tooling changes.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, Aerospace Engineering or related curriculum, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 4 years manufacturing engineering, design engineering, or related technical experience.
- Proven knowledge and understanding of Lean and/or Six Sigma principles and processes.
- Knowledgeable of Engineering configuration requirements, tooling, quality control, plant safety, blueprint reading, and shop math.
- Ability to operate computerized equipment, such as personal computers, CADAM, CATIA, Solumina, SAP, Corridor.
- Complete understanding and experience implementing Lean Manufacturing Concepts: 5S, JIT, SMED, KanBan, VSM, One Piece Flow, etc.
- This job requires one to be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Nice To Haves
- Experience interpreting G550 blueprints is preferred but not required.
- Working knowledge of Six-Sigma or other data-driven decision making experience highly desirable.
- Lean Six-Sigma Green Belt, equivalent certification, or proven experience in a Lean Six-Sigma environment highly desirable.
Responsibilities
- Provide and maintain detailed work instructions for the assigned manufacturing process.
- Drive quality improvements and efficiency improvements.
- Enhance material presentation.
- Manage the daily work plan.
- Provide metrics for quality and schedule performance.
- Coordinate engineering and tooling changes as required to meet Operations goals.
- Perform RCCA (Root Cause Corrective Action) analysis on quality defects.
- Perform technical studies of a complex nature and conduct analysis of operations.
- Define equipment/tooling needs and correct methods of manufacturing.
- Contribute to the planning, developing, and coordinating of important manufacturing and engineering projects.
- Perform producibility studies from engineering drawings.
- Participate in Design for Manufacturing assessments with Engineering.
- Determine and develop individual approach to solutions within schedule and cost objectives.
- Provide training to OE Is and OE IIs in work methods, procedures, and efficient use of company resources.
- Independently lead/coordinate the implementation of projects among multiple organizations.
- Apply Lean principles to manufacturing methods as a team member or leader.
- Incorporate Lean Manufacturing Methodology into existing and future processes.
- Support all Safety, Sustainability and Ergonomic Initiatives.
- Aid in development and maintenance of Business Continuity Plan.
- Ensure quality policies are being practiced; make recommendations and implement procedures to improve quality.
- Initiate and maintain accurate daily/weekly activity status based on work output.
- Function as Operations Manager substitute.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
