About The Position

Friends of the Children – He Sapa is seeking a passionate and committed leader to serve as their Operations Director in Rapid City. This role is crucial for establishing and growing the new location, supporting essential functions such as human resources, finance, IT, social media, and marketing. The ideal candidate will possess an understanding of Indigenous cultures, business acumen, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a strong dedication to children's welfare. They should be adept at implementing efficient processes and fostering collaborative relationships built on trust, empathy, and clear communication. This leader will be committed to equity and ensuring the organization's mission is executed with the full engagement of impacted communities.

Requirements

  • A minimum of five years of operations experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; familiarity with databases and office functions.
  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal communication skills, and experience working with diverse constituencies, specifically tribal populations.
  • Excellent written communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Highly organized and dependable; ability to work independently and maintain composure under pressure.
  • Ability to prioritize work and adapt to shifting demands and work situations, meet deadlines; maintain regular communication with supervisor regarding work plans, and proactively seek guidance regarding priorities and timelines.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, use good judgment, and follow procedures.
  • Ability to travel locally and adapt schedule to meet the organization’s needs (i.e., some evenings and an occasional weekend).

Responsibilities

  • Support human resources, finance, information technology, social media & marketing, and other enabling functions to ensure operations are established and running optimally.
  • Develop and implement HR processes and procedures, including work plans, recruitment management, and job postings.
  • Lead the benefits enrollment process, including researching and selecting employee benefits for Executive Director approval.
  • Serve as the expert on organizational policies and procedures, perform background checks, and maintain confidential records.
  • Supervise new employee onboarding and promote an accepting and transparent workplace.
  • Manage chapter financials, including reviewing and processing expense reports, processing payroll, and preparing deposits, invoices, and accounts payable.
  • Partner with the National finance team on financial reporting and collaborate with the Executive Director on the strategic plan.
  • Support the Executive Director on projects such as completing registrations and contracts, coordinating with Friends National, and acting as the board liaison for logistics and preparation.
  • Provide ongoing organizational support, including taking meeting notes, managing IT support, developing office procedures, and participating in staff meetings and events.
  • Support the Development Team with donation processing, donor record updates, preparing mailings, and special event logistics.
  • Support the Program Team with staff event logistics and assistance with the reimbursement process.
  • Maintain facilities by researching and selecting contractors, managing landlord relationships, communicating with vendors, and coordinating facility expansions or updates.
