About The Position

The Office of Livable Streets (OLS) is tasked with prioritizing strategic planning, community engagement, research, policy, design, implementation, and long-term management. Their goal is to create streets that are livable, supporting safety, accessibility, inclusion, resiliency, active modes, community cohesion, and economic vitality citywide. Additionally, they aim to enhance New York City's pedestrian, bicycle, and micromobility networks, providing comfortable, connected, green, and reliable transportation options across the five boroughs. They place special emphasis on Priority Investment Areas, mode shift, and reimagining streets. The office also develops innovative new programs, design typologies, project delivery, and analysis tools to meet the demands of a rapidly changing population with evolving needs and technologies. The Cycling & Micromobility Unit is responsible for the nation's largest network of on-street bicycle facilities (1,200+ lane-miles), enhancing street safety for all users, and increasing bike ridership in the five boroughs. The team's focus is the innovative redesign of city streets to expand and improve the bike network, with emphasis on improving connectivity between neighborhoods, increasing access to safe bicycle infrastructure across the city, and creating a more equitable transportation network that serves all New Yorkers. The Cycling & Micromobility unit seeks to hire an Operations Coordinator to support the launch and implementation of the Secure Bike Program (SBP). Over the next five years, NYC DOT will install 500 secure bike parking facilities, creating thousands of safe, convenient bicycle parking spaces across New York City. This initiative will make cycling more accessible and practical by supporting ownership of a wide range of bicycles, including cargo bikes, adaptive bikes, and UL-certified e-bikes. Under the supervision of the Senior Program Manager, the Operations Coordinator will play a key role in the deployment and operation of SBP facilities citywide. The candidate will evaluate existing site conditions and document findings to identify technically feasible locations for SBP installations, review installation plans and site layouts to ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements, coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to address site-specific issues and support successful facility deployment and provide general support for project planning and implementation. The candidate will perform post-installation inspections to verify facilities are installed according to approved plans and specifications, conduct routine field inspections to monitor facility conditions and ensure compliance with maintenance and service requirements, document inspection findings, and coordinate corrective actions as needed. The candidate will maintain accurate records of site assessments, installations, inspections, and operational activities using program databases and tracking systems, assist with performance monitoring and reporting related to facility operations and contractor service compliance, and support pre-installation notifications and other administrative activities associated with project delivery. The candidate will support community engagement activities related to the Secure Bike Program, prepare work orders based upon field conditions, assist with inquiries and support communication efforts related to SBP, and perform additional duties and special projects related to the implementation and operation of the program, as assigned. We are looking for a detail-oriented, proactive, and collaborative professional with strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills. The candidate should be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team and demonstrate a willingness to conduct fieldwork year-round while traveling by bicycle, on foot, or via public transit.

Requirements

Must be serving permanently in the title of Traffic Control Inspector.
Must be reachable on the civil service list.
Must be eligible under the 55a program.
A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization, and two years of full time satisfactory experience in vehicular traffic regulation and control or in conducting traffic studies; or
An Associate of Applied Science degree from an accredited college or university with a major in engineering technology, urban studies, urban planning, mathematics or another closely related field; or
A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and a satisfactory combination of experience and/or college education that is equivalent to that described in "1" or "2" above. College credits obtained from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of 30 semester credits for one year of full time experience. However, for every 30 semester credits that are substituted for one year of full time experience, at least 6 of the 30 semester credits must be in engineering technology, urban studies, urban planning, mathematics or other closely related field.
Must possess a motor vehicle driver license, valid in the State of New York. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
For assignment level II: one additional year of full-time satisfactory experience working in Assignment Level I; or one additional year of full time satisfactory experience as described in "1" above for a total of three years of experience. Such experience must include supervising the regulation of vehicular traffic or the conduct of traffic studies.
For assignment level III: two additional years of full time satisfactory experience working in Assignment Levels I and II for a total of four years of experience; or two additional years of full time satisfactory experience as described in "1" above, at least one of which must have been in supervising vehicular traffic regulation and control or in conducting traffic studies.

Nice To Haves

Professional experience in design, engineering, or planning or a related field.

Responsibilities
