About The Position

Florida Atlantic University is seeking several Operations Assistants. The Operations Assistant serves as the front-line customer service staff member at the Recreation and Fitness Center. Operations Assistants are responsible for providing accurate information about our programs, services, and facilities, educating patrons on policies and procedures, and ensuring safe and proper use of fitness equipment. This position helps Campus Recreation manage risk by providing a clean and safe environment to 13,000 square feet of fitness space, enforcing facility access policies, and ensuring patron compliance with rules and regulations. Your role is to create positive, proactive engagement with every opportunity.

Requirements

  • FAU degree-seeking undergraduate student with a minimum of six credit hours (or twelve if international) and a 2.5 GPA required.
  • Final candidate will be required to have official, sealed transcripts and original NACES evaluation, if applicable, sent from their educational institution to Human Resources prior to the start of employment.
  • Selected candidates must successfully complete and pass all employment screenings prior to the start of employment. Employment screenings may include a criminal background check (level I and level II), motor vehicle check, credit check, reference checks, alcohol, and drug screening check.
  • For applicants who are citizens of a foreign country and not a permanent resident of the U.S., or who are a citizen or permanent resident but are affiliated with or has had at least 1 year of employment or training in China, Russia, Iran, North Korea, Cuba, Venezuela, or Syria: provide every institution of higher education attended; all previous employment since the applicant’s 18th birthday; list of all published material, current and pending research funding from any source, including details about the research, your role, funding source, and amount; list and description of any non-university professional activities; any affiliation with an institution or program in a foreign country. Selected applicants will be required to provide additional information per the Statute, including a complete copy of your passport; and, if available, the most recently submitted DS-160 (Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application).

Responsibilities

  • Answer patron’s questions by phone and in person.
  • Maintain a clean and safe fitness environment.
  • Educate and enforce policies and procedures.
  • Ensure safe and intended use of fitness equipment.
  • Report and communicate facility equipment issues and patron concerns.
  • Maintain controlled facility access.
  • Maintain equipment for checkout, group fitness enrollment, and towel services.
  • Other duties as assigned.
