About The Position

The Manager, Operations Accounting leads its contract accounting and revenue recognition function. This role is critical to ensure accurate financial reporting as X-energy scales its small modular reactor business across government and commercial contracts. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for analyzing complex customer contracts, establishing robust processes for revenue and cost recognition, and ensuring compliance with ASC 606 and other relevant accounting standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
  • 10 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Solid understanding of US GAAP and accounting principles
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with ERP systems
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple priorities

Nice To Haves

  • CPA or actively pursuing CPA preferred
  • Combination of public accounting and industry experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze customer contracts (government and commercial) to determine proper accounting treatment under ASC 606 and other relevant US GAAP standards
  • Design, implement, and maintain comprehensive policies and procedures for revenue and cost recognition across the organization, including proper cost capitalization versus expense treatment
  • Develop checklists, workflows, and training materials to operationalize technical accounting policies and ensure consistent application across the finance team
  • Develop and maintain contract review processes and collaborate with Technical Accounting on position papers documenting conclusions
  • Oversee the monthly and quarterly revenue recognition process, including tracking performance obligations, milestones, deliverables, and preparation of associated journal entries
  • Working with the Business Office, calculate monthly and quarterly operating expense and capital expenditure accruals and record associated journal entries
  • Build scalable accounting processes, system controls, and automation tools to accommodate business growth and increasing contract complexity
  • Prepare and maintain revenue recognition schedules and supporting documentation for audit purposes
  • Collaborate with commercial and government contracting teams during proposal and negotiation phases to proactively identify accounting implications
