About The Position

United States Steel - Granite City Works is seeking an Operational Excellence Engineer. The position is accountable for planning and implementing operational improvements in the primary and finishing divisions using Six Sigma, Lean manufacturing, and other problem-solving methodologies. It is also accountable for business forecasting, scheduling, and performance for a segment of the plant facility, as well as defining and managing performance requirements for the work area.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a closely related technical field.
• At least two years of experience in an industrial atmosphere.
• Demonstrated experience improving manufacturing processes.
• Successful and effective team experience.
• Strong focus on creating value for the plant.

Nice To Haves

• Steel industry experience.
• Understanding of plant processes and manufacturing areas.
• Ability to communicate and present proposed improvement ideas to the organization.
• Knowledge of and ability to use various Six Sigma tools.

Responsibilities

• Drive culture change and promote fact-based management practices using Lean Six Sigma and other problem-solving methodologies.
• Oversee business forecasting, scheduling, and performance for a segment of the plant facility.
• Apply comprehensive knowledge of plant operations.
• Prioritize multiple projects to ensure appropriate allocation of people and financial resources.
• Define and manage performance requirements for the work area.
