About The Position

The Office of Information Technology Services (OITS) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Systems Programmer II to join our Network Support team. This position will assist with the implementation, monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance of enterprise network infrastructure supporting Department operations across multiple locations. The successful candidate will work alongside senior network engineers and analysts to support the Department's wired, wireless, cloud, and security infrastructure while developing technical expertise in enterprise networking technologies. This position is an in-person role based at the Florida Department of Children and Families Headquarters in Tallahassee, Florida. Telework and remote work arrangements are not available for this position. Candidates must be able to report to the Tallahassee headquarters office daily. This position participates in an On-Call rotation to provide after-hours support for critical network infrastructure. The selected candidate must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed to support system outages, maintenance activities, and emergency operations.

Requirements

  • Understanding of TCP/IP networking fundamentals, including routing, switching, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, NAT, and wireless networking.
  • Basic understanding of network security concepts, including firewalls, access control, VPNs, and security best practices.
  • Familiarity with Cisco enterprise networking solutions and network troubleshooting methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Palo Alto Networks firewall concepts and security policy administration.
  • Understanding of cloud networking fundamentals within Microsoft Azure and AWS, including virtual networks, subnets, routing, network security controls, VPN connectivity, and hybrid cloud networking.
  • Ability to troubleshoot network and connectivity issues using a structured analytical approach.
  • Ability to learn new technologies and adapt to evolving enterprise and cloud networking environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor network performance, availability, and capacity using enterprise monitoring tools.
  • Assist with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of Cisco switching, routing, and wireless infrastructure.
  • Support Palo Alto Networks firewall operations, policy administration, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Troubleshoot connectivity issues involving routing, switching, wireless networks, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, and network security services.
  • Assist with cloud networking operations within Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS).
  • Maintain network documentation, diagrams, inventories, and operational procedures.
  • Work with vendors, service providers, and internal teams to resolve network-related incidents and service disruptions.
  • Participate in infrastructure upgrades, maintenance windows, and technology refresh projects.
