About The Position

The Operating Room Radiologic Technologist operates radiologic equipment to produce diagnostic images and performs routine, portable, operating room, and fluoroscopic procedures. The role includes performing complex radiographic procedures and providing guidance to lower-level Radiologic Technologists and students. The technologist positions patients, adjusts equipment and exposure factors, applies appropriate techniques and protocols, explains procedures, and takes precautions to minimize radiation exposure to patients and staff. The position provides patient care during radiologic procedures, monitors patients for potential crises, ensures patients are prepared, and communicates with patients, families, and healthcare team members. It also involves setting up procedure rooms, assisting with staff and student training, completing patient-care documentation and Radiology Information System records, participating in quality assurance and improvement activities, and following hospital and department safety requirements. The technologist safely operates, mobilizes, and positions equipment; cleans equipment and stocks rooms; and troubleshoots equipment issues, reporting malfunctions to a supervisor. This is a full-time position at Emory Midtown Hospital, scheduled from 7 AM to 4 PM for 40 hours per week. Applicants must graduate from an accredited Radiologic Technology program, hold at least ARRT registration, have BLS certification in accordance with the American Heart Association, and have at least one year of experience. All levels of experience and education will be considered for the posting.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology.
At minimum, registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification in accordance with the American Heart Association.
At least one year of experience.
Ability to meet the listed physical demands, including lifting up to 50 pounds and carrying objects up to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

Operate radiologic equipment to produce diagnostic radiographs.
Perform routine, portable, operating room, and fluoroscopic exams, including complex radiographic procedures.
Position patients and adjust equipment, exposure factors, techniques, and protocols to produce high-quality images.
Explain procedures to patients and families, reduce anxiety, obtain cooperation, and assist with patient and family education.
Provide patient care during radiologic procedures and continually evaluate patients for potential crises.
Ensure patients are prepared for procedures and set up procedure rooms with the necessary equipment and supplies.
Perform multiple radiologic procedures within appropriate timeframes.
Use radiation protection techniques, beam-restrictive devices, patient shielding, and applicable exposure factors to minimize exposure to patients and staff.
Use required personal protective equipment and follow hospital and department safety requirements.
Complete patient-care documentation according to established charting procedures and enter procedures into the Radiology Information System to support billing.
Assist with training radiology staff and students and provide guidance to lower-level Radiologic Technologists and students.
Participate in radiology quality assurance, quality improvement, and performance-improvement data collection activities.
Communicate effectively with patients, families, and other healthcare team members, and keep patients and families informed about patient progress.
Properly operate, mobilize, and position radiologic equipment; clean equipment and stock procedure rooms.
Troubleshoot equipment problems and advise a supervisor of equipment malfunctions.
May participate on a safety committee.
