About The Position

The Operating Room Assistant supports patient care, safety, and medical assistance in the operating room. The role promotes patient- and family-focused care by greeting and assisting patients, families, guests, and hospital personnel; providing orientation information; understanding hospital services and locations; and directing people to appropriate resources. The assistant transports and transfers patients, verifies patient identity using two approved identifiers, and maintains safety and comfort during transfers, including appropriate precautions. The position is onsite at 90 Blossom Street, scheduled Monday through Friday from 3 PM to 11 PM, for 40 hours per week.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.
0–1 year of medical office, hospital, or managed care experience required.
Ability to comprehend written directions for mixing cleaning supplies and ordering supplies.
Awareness of proper body mechanics when assisting with patient transfers and lifting heavy objects.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with other healthcare members.
Ability to work collaboratively with the surgical team.
Ability to remain alert and attentive to the operating room schedule and meet tight deadlines.

Nice To Haves

0–1 year of operating room experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Promote patient- and family-focused care through cordial interactions with patients, families, and hospital personnel.
Provide hospital and unit orientation information to guests, patients, and families.
Maintain awareness of hospital systems, procedures, department and procedure-area locations, and patient services.
Refer patients, families, and others to appropriate resources.
Independently transport and assist with transferring patients.
Identify patients using two approved identifiers.
Maintain safety and support measures during patient transfers, including raising bedrails and keeping patients covered and warm.
Observe special precautions when transferring patients who require them.
Monitor the operating room schedule and remain attentive to progress to meet tight deadlines.
Comprehend written directions for mixing cleaning supplies and ordering supplies.
Use proper body mechanics when assisting with patient transfers and lifting heavy objects.
Work collaboratively with the surgical team and other healthcare members.
