About The Position

The Endoscopy Unit provides total gastrointestinal care. Ninety percent of the patients are outpatient, and the remaining ten percent are inpatients or transfers from another facility. There are approximately 20,000 cases performed in the unit annually. This role is responsible for ensuring excellent patient care, maintaining safety standards, and providing medical assistance in the operating room. The assistant promotes a philosophy of patient/family focused care through cordial greeting and interactions with patients, families, and hospital personnel. They provide hospital/unit orientation information for guests, patients, and families, and demonstrate an awareness of hospital systems and procedures, location of all departments, procedure areas, and other patient services. The role also refers patients, families, and others to appropriate resources, independently transports and assists in the transfer of patients, properly identifies patients utilizing two approved identifiers, and ensures safety and support measures in patient transfer (i.e., bedrails raised, patient covered and warm). The assistant is aware of special precautions in transferring patients with precautions and performs other duties as assigned, complying with all policies and standards.

Requirements

High School Diploma or Equivalent required
Medical Office/Hospital/Managed Care Experience 0-1 year required
Must be able to comprehend written directions for mixing cleaning supplies and ordering supplies
Must be aware of proper body mechanics when assisting in patient transfer and lifting of heavy objects
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with other health care members
Ability to work collaboratively with the surgical team
Must constantly be alert and attentive to progress of O.R. schedule to meet tight deadlines
