About The Position

The Operating Room Assistant provides technical support and assists with patient care as a member of the surgical team. Duties include transporting patients, running errands, relaying messages, assisting with patient care, and supporting room turnover. The role also performs direct and indirect patient care duties and helps maintain a clean, safe environment in patient care and surgical support areas. The position requires maintaining clinical knowledge, technical skills, training, and credentials; adapting to changes in the department; and adjusting communication and conduct to the needs of each patient population. The employee must follow applicable laws, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements, as well as the employer’s Compliance & Privacy Program and Standards of Conduct. Duties may change and may include other related responsibilities.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience functioning calmly in pressure situations.
Experience working with little supervision.
Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.
Proficiency using computers, software, and web-based applications.
Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to work with little supervision.
Ability to use good judgment and handle difficult situations.
Good organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to function calmly in pressure situations.
Ability to move throughout the department and facility.
Ability to meet the physical demands of very heavy work, including exerting more than 100 pounds of force occasionally, more than 50 pounds frequently, and more than 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
Ability to work in a patient-care environment with routine exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue, specimens that may contain communicable diseases, and potential exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste.

Remain knowledgeable about applicable laws, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements and ensure compliance.
Comply with the employer’s Compliance & Privacy Program and Standards of Conduct, including immediately reporting suspected unethical conduct and safety, privacy, or compliance concerns.
