About The Position

The Operating Room Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting patient care and operational efficiency within the surgical and procedural environment. Primary functions include patient transport, general and equipment cleaning, gathering and preparing specialized equipment, specimen transport, room turnover, and performing shave preps. The assistant will also support the clinical team with patient care tasks such as positioning and prepping under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Physician. This role is responsible for preparing for procedures by setting up trays and supplies, and maintaining inventory for various modalities. The Operating Room Assistant facilitates patient flow, acts as a central communication point, assists with patient transfers, and provides patient supervision while awaiting procedures. Specific duties may vary by department, with additional responsibilities outlined for Operating Room, Imaging Services, and Cath Lab environments.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Skills and knowledge of equipment related to the surgical/ procedural environment
• 1 year of patient care experience in hospital setting or 6-month experience as Operating Room/Imaging/Cath Lab Assistant preferred
• BLS Certification

Responsibilities

• Assisting with prioritizing daily patient schedules (Imaging Services Only)
• Coordinating throughout in procedure room as directed (Imaging Services Only)
• Retrieving lab results (Imaging Services Only)
• Provides assistance to all hospital-based Imaging departments and campus adjacent imaging centers as needed to support patient care (Imaging Services Only)
• Transporting non-controlled pharmaceuticals to lab when ordered (Cath Lab Only)
• Responsible for educating lab staff regarding proper sanitizing practices and signs off competencies (Cath Lab Only)
• Responsible for orienting and sign-off of employees to supply distribution centers (Cath Lab Only)
• Collaborates with technologists to manage availability of sterile instruments available for use (Cath Lab Only)
• Responsible for receipt, distribution, and storage of supplies while utilizing technology-based LEAN par management system (Cath Lab Only)
• Serves as a department resource and product liaison (Cath Lab Only)
