About The Position

Accepting applications for an operating engineer position in our Tenant Service Center (TSC), which sits at the heart of our engineering operations. The TSC is a world class command and control center where 80+ of JBG SMITH’s buildings are managed and controlled from a central location. From this center, all of our buildings are operated, including the control of all set points, schedules, and alarms. In addition, the TSC supports our onsite engineering teams and serves as resource for troubleshooting, optimization, and a host of other engineering and facility management activities. This role will have responsibility over one of the largest real estate portfolios in the country. Requirements

High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
At least three (3) years of engineering operations in large office, multifamily, medical, or hotel buildings.
Military experience working in mission control rooms, propulsion plants, or other mission-critical systems (such as an Officer of the Watch and related fields supervising equipment performance).
Experience using building automation systems, such as Siemens and Tridium.
Comfortable following procedures to address system alarms and malfunctioning equipment.
Very strong technical knowledge of HVAC system is required.
Communication and phone etiquette skills are very important.
Candidates must be reliable and dependable with excellent attendance.
Schedule flexibility to respond to emergencies and shift overage.

Nice To Haves

Industry and trade licenses/certifications are a plus (such as a DC 3rd Class License).
Experience programming BAS systems is a plus.
Strong quantitative skills are a plus.
Ability to self-educate through online learning and research.
Natural curiosity and interest in learning and analysis.

Responsibilities

Serve a central role on the team and have responsibility for mechanical operations across the portfolio, including the starting and stopping equipment, managing setpoints, responding to alarms and faulted equipment, scheduling equipment, troubleshooting HVAC issues, and other activities in commercial office and multifamily operations.
Work in a power plant, NOC, or other large mission-critical mechanical system monitoring equipment, managing alarm responses, and checking equipment or device performance.
Work as a controls engineer or controls technician for building automation systems (BAS) / energy management systems (EMS).
Work in a 24/7/365 operations center.
Review building performance reports from previous time periods to identify anomalies, underperforming or malfunctioning equipment, and identify solutions to remedy operational issues.
Respond to emergencies and shift overage.
