About The Position

The University of North Texas College of Music is seeking a part-time opera scenic carpenter for the opera season. This position will collaborate with the opera scenic technical director and opera scenic designer to build, install, and strike opera scenery. All construction will occur in the UNT dance and theater arts scenic shop on the UNT campus, under the supervision of the technical director.

Requirements

3 years of experience building theatrical scenery for a collegiate or professional level program.
Associate's degree or higher in a related field.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings for theatrical set construction.
Ability to lead a team of carpenters.
Extensive knowledge of safety in using all shop tools and in construction methods.
Ability to perform tasks involving lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, climbing stairs and ladders.

Responsibilities

Build, install, and strike opera scenery for the UNT College of Music opera season.
Interpret technical drawings and cut lumber as indicated.
Assemble and construct set pieces using safe and secure methods.
Load and unload set pieces into a truck for transport across campus.
