The Pennsylvania State University’s College of Health and Human Development invites applications for an open-rank tenure-track faculty position in its environmental health sciences initiative. Candidates’ research should align with one or both priority areas: built environment and health outcomes, or extreme weather and health outcomes. Research may use population-level approaches, including epidemiologic or computational methods, or investigate mechanisms underlying relevant associations. Applicants from a range of disciplines are welcome, and scholars bringing an environmental health policy perspective are also encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will develop a collaborative research program drawing on expertise across Penn State and examining environmental influences on health in interaction with social, behavioral, and physiological determinants. The primary academic appointment will be in one of the College of Health and Human Development’s eight academic units. Depending on the research program, the position may also receive support from university research institutes, including the Institute of Energy and the Environment, the Social Sciences Research Institute, or the Cocoziello Institute of Real Estate Innovation, as well as academic units in other colleges. Tenure-track faculty are expected to teach, mentor trainees, and serve the university and profession. Applicants must demonstrate research excellence, a strong publication record, and an interest in interdisciplinary collaboration. Established researchers should have a record of external grant funding and a commitment to mentoring students or early-career researchers; early-career applicants should demonstrate the potential to achieve these expectations. A PhD in a relevant field is required.
