About The Position

The University of South Florida (USF) is seeking an Open Rank Academic IBD Gastroenterologist. USF is a top-ranked research university with a strong commitment to innovation and transforming lives. The Morsani College of Medicine is highly ranked nationally. This position involves clinical duties focused on Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), including outpatient clinics and endoscopy procedures. There will also be inpatient consult responsibilities and participation in multidisciplinary care planning. The role includes teaching medical students, residents, and fellows, as well as contributing to the development of the IBD Fellowship Program. Research is a key component, requiring the maintenance of a nationally competitive research program with extramural funding and peer-reviewed publications. Administrative duties include potential Medical Director roles and managing clinical obligations such as chart completion and patient follow-up. The position is responsible to a Chair or higher-level administrator and involves teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities, including academic advising.

Requirements

Medical degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service.
Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor.
For Associate/Full Professor - Normally will have produced creative work, professional writing or research in refereed and other professional journals, and be a recognized authority in the field of specialization.
Must hold or be eligible for a full, unrestricted Florida Medical License or foreign equivalent required.
Candidate will need to obtain and maintain a full un-restricted FL Medical License.
Maintain credentials in the USF Health faculty practice plan.
Be a medical staff member in good standing at the hospitals he/she is assigned to perform clinical duties.
The candidate will participate in the teaching of residents, fellows, and medical students in clinical medicine.
MUST BE BOARD CERTIFIED/ELIGIBLE IN: Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Responsibilities

2-3 days of outpatient IBD-focused clinics.
1-2 days of endoscopy procedures.
Inpatient consult responsibilities as assigned.
Participation in multidisciplinary conferences and care planning meetings.
Gastroenterology inpatient consult coverage.
Hospital and emergency department consultation support.
Management of urgent IBD-related issues as needed.
Participate in didactic teaching and mentoring of medical and/or graduate students, residents and/or post-doctoral fellows.
Participate in the development of the IBD Fellowship Program.
Maintain a nationally competitive research program with continued extramural funding, peer-reviewed publications, and collaboration with other faculty.
Participate in research with the Division of Digestive Diseases & Nutrition; Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Center, and in educational research (including grant writing) and other scholarly activities.
TGH Medical Director, Gastroenterology / IBD.
Complete clinical obligations such as chart completion, patient follow-up, reviewing lung offers, triaging calls and labs, organizing outreach clinics and growing the referral network.
Responsible to a Chair or other appropriate higher-level administrator of a State university.
Responsible for teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities.
Responsible for academic advising and related activities.
May represent the university, college/school, or department.
