About The Position

The OP Coding Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of outpatient medical coding processes within healthcare facilities. This position is responsible for overseeing the coding workflow, coordinating between clinical staff and coding teams to guarantee that all outpatient procedures and diagnoses are correctly documented and coded according to regulatory standards. The role involves continuous monitoring of coding quality, providing training and support to coding staff, and collaborating with billing and compliance departments to optimize revenue cycle management. The OP Coding Coordinator also analyzes coding data to identify trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for process improvement. Ultimately, this position ensures that outpatient coding practices support accurate reimbursement, regulatory compliance, and high-quality patient care documentation.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Health Information Management, Medical Coding, or a related field.
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) credential.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in outpatient medical coding.
  • Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems and outpatient coding guidelines.
  • Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and coding software.
  • In-depth knowledge of medical coding systems daily to ensure that outpatient procedures are accurately translated into standardized codes, which directly impacts billing and reimbursement.
  • Strong analytical skills are essential for reviewing coding data, identifying errors, and implementing corrective measures to maintain compliance and optimize revenue.
  • Effective communication skills enable the coordinator to collaborate with clinical staff, coders, and billing teams to resolve documentation issues and provide targeted training.
  • Organizational skills are critical for managing multiple coding workflows, tracking productivity metrics, and coordinating audit activities.
  • Staying current with evolving coding standards and healthcare regulations allows the coordinator to adapt processes and educate the team, ensuring ongoing compliance and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate daily outpatient coding activities to ensure timely and accurate coding of medical records.
