About The Position

The University of Virginia's School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS) is seeking applicants for a tenure-ineligible, part-time Lecturer position within the Public Administration Graduate Certificate Program. This role is specifically for the Spring 2027 term, focusing on teaching PSPA 5010: Public Policy Analysis. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in both practicing and teaching public policy analysis. Preference will be given to those also capable of teaching PSPA 5000: Introduction to Public Administration. The program serves working adult learners and offers courses primarily in an online, asynchronous format, with optional live sessions held bi-weekly. Instructors are expected to facilitate these live sessions. While the primary focus is on PSPA 5010, there is potential to teach other courses within the SCPS Public Administration Certificate and broader certificate portfolio. SCPS values academic faculty with relevant expertise and current professional experience that aligns with program goals and student learning outcomes.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, Public Affairs, or a closely related field.
  • At least 5 years of public sector experience.
  • Previous online teaching or training experience, including familiarity with technology in teaching and experience with adult learners.
  • Relevant expertise for graduate-level instruction.
  • Ability to adapt syllabi while maintaining learning outcomes.
  • Willingness to host live class meetings for students.

Responsibilities
