About The Position

This job profile is only for faculty members hired to complete a short-term and/or part-time academic work assignment, such as teaching one or more courses for one or two academic terms. The Department of Engineering and Society at the University of Virginia School of Engineering and Applied Science seeks candidates for a faculty wage position to teach undergraduate courses in our core curriculum for Spring 2027. Our need includes sections of our second-year Engineering Ethics course and/or our fourth-year thesis development courses STS and Engineering Practice and The Engineer, Ethics, and Professional Responsibility.

Requirements

• Advanced degree (Ph.D. or Masters) in science and technology studies, engineering education, philosophy, or a closely related humanities or social science field with a strong ethics-focused core.
• Prior experience in teaching at the college or university level.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate courses in the core curriculum, including Engineering Ethics, STS, and Engineering Practice and The Engineer, Ethics, and Professional Responsibility.
• Travel to and from work location, other UVA or UVA Health facilities, or to other locations in the U.S. or abroad for meetings or research.
• Use computers, specialized equipment, and other technologies.
• Remain stationary, move, bend, lift, and reach.
• Perform procedures using fine motor skills.
• Communicate effectively, in writing, in person, in the classroom, online, and in clinical settings.
• Interact with others such as colleagues, other academic and medical peers, students, patients, and the public.
